I think my biggest gripe with The Hobbit, (apart from the fact that it was a very long movie where little actually happens) is why Bilbo agrees to go on the journey. The viewer never understands why Bilbo accepts the call to action until the final scene of the film - which is pretty weak. We see his refusal of the call to action several times in the first 45 minutes, but never his acceptance of the call. He just randomly picks up the map and dashes off to catch up. Why? What made him say, 'okay, fuck it. I've got nothing else to do.' It's pretty careless filmmaking to overlook, arguably, the most important story-telling plot device, especially when Jackson spent as much attention to every other aspect from the first six chapters of the book - as well as plenty of other shit that wasn't.

If I were to grade the film objectively, I probably would give it a C-.
It's not terrible, just flawed - and at times, over-the-top cheesy.

I really liked Lawless and Jeff, Who Lives At Home. Those were my two favorites I saw this year.

Least favorite, SHAME.

We saw The Silver Lining Playbook last night. It was fantastic! Probably my favorite movie of 2012. I still haven't seen the Master which is the only other movie that could probably outshine David O. Russell's incredible film making. The guy may be an asshole, but damn is he ever good. Bradley Cooper was also phenomenal and would be my pick for Best Actor.

Lincoln sucks. Bernie sucks. Sleepwalk With Me almost didn't suck. But you know me.

I think Moonrise Kingdom was the only movie I enjoyed this year.

Django was phenomenal. I'm a huge Tarantino fan and I asbolutely loved it.

Django and Life of Pi were probably the two best movies I saw this year.

Saw Silver Linings Playbook over the break and I thought it was alright...I don't really get why it is getting such rave reviews.

I am beyond excited for Zero Dark Thirty, that looks freaking phenomenal.
