Just watched John Carter with Lucy and her son. I actually liked it, primarily because of how bad it was but also because I'm such a scifi nerd and there were some serious nods to Dune in there that may have been inadvertent but were resounding none the less.

Wait. Did one of you guys (probably drew) say that before about this movie? After typing it myself, it sounded very familiar.

My bro in law just showed me an audiobook app that has all of the book that are common property now for free. Next up on my list are the John carter books (I know they have a real name, just too lazy to look it up). I'm excited to see the movie, just 'cause I love the old twenties idealized space idea a lot and also Tim riggins.

The "Barsoom" series was published from 1912 - 1964 apparently, according to all-knowing Wikipedia.

So the book John Carter of Mars actually came out the year before Dune. I haven't read the John Carter book yet but you could see how some ideas could be the same from being released in the same time period.
