This thread is the result of a couple board members arguing in the music section, with one member questioning the other's sexuality as a way to insult that member. I took this thread more as a "if you guys want to Dr. Garbanzoht and make gay jokes, put them here instead of in the music forum."

Deleting offensive posts doesn't really solve the problem. If anything, this discussion does more to fix it. There have been, and always will be offensive and tasteless posts, but I'd rather err on the side of not deleting posts, rather than setting a precedent of what should and shouldn't be deleted.

As a gay woman I can not agree more with this. 2 months ago my friend was attacked walking home (a girl) and brutally beat up by 3 guys, who were shouting "kill the ***" and "fuck you queer". She was beat down then kicked in the head over 10 times. Itellectualize and rationalize the "it's only a word" argument all you want, as it stands now it is a hateful word and until you are a member of a community who are verbally, politically and physically attacked you may never know the pain one gets from seeing these words thrown around so flippantly. So as Thunderroad stated "If you know better, you do better", or willingly choose to be a part of the hate, and to the mods, y'all can willingly choose too!!!!! We don't need this anymore - our fucking police (edmonton, alberta) took over a week to even recognize this as a hate crime and even had the fucking nerve to publicly say "***" and "queer" aren't always indicative of hate and are just words people say when they are fired up! Shit even made international news for it's blatant ignorance.
