The movers arrived with my stuff this morning. Nothing was missing or damaged, save for a $10 Ikea lampshade which still managed to get crunched despite being in a box all by itself. Whatever, it can easily be replaced.
I'm mostly unpacked and it's a great feeling to finally be home in San Diego. Some fun J-Dawg moving facts:
I have 7 boxes of board games. Jesus. By contrast, I only have 5 boxes of albums and CDs. (in a 2.5 / 2.5 split, more or less).
I have 300 feet of speaker wire. None of it is run yet.
My move weighed 3100 lbs, which is a little less than me x 15. I Dr. Garbanzoure today alone I recycled about 200lbs of that in boxes and packing material. And there are still 17 boxes to collapse and recycle, plus whatever packing material is in them.
You don't want to know what it costs to move from Calgary to San Diego. Thank goodness my employer is kicking in over 90% of the costs.
Unpacking my kitchen took over 3 hours.
Unpacking is more fun after a few glasses of two buck chuck. Trader Joe's, where have you been all my life?
I randomly discovered several facts during this move. Bear in mind that I paid the movers to pack, and I'm now unpacking: 1. I own a coffee maker. I can assure you it hasn't been used in over 5 years. 2. I own a blender. See "I own a coffee maker". 3. Tea takes up 1.5 shelves in my new pantry 4. I have a small 9-bottle ikea special wine rack somewhere. The only boxes left are labeled "books", "board games', "albums", and "cds". I do not know which box it's in, but it's in one of them. I saw them pack it in a box in Calgary.
Southern California has some big-ass beetles. I left my front door open for circulation and a 1.5" Pine-something-or-other beetle flew into the apartment. Holy shit.
This post brought to you by the Chemical Brothers, Two-buck-Chuck, and the every thread.

So, a bit of an addendum to this. I just discovered one of my front speakers needs some maintenance. The Low-Mid-High-pass filter board has come off its mount and needs to be re-mounted (and the mid-channel connector needs to be reconected).
This is all simple to fix, although I've never deconstructed one of these speakers before and I'm concerned I'll alter the sound somehow as illogical as that seems, given that the remount of the small PCB will necessarily alter the sound slightly in the cabinet.
I'm surprised as I've had these speakers for over a decade and they've been moved numerous times. Oh well. I guess 1500 miles of bouncing around in the back of a truck will do that...

I'm hammered. I'm playing cards with friends. And I have enough mac and cheese to feed a small village.
