I just want to thank everyone for their kind thoughts. The other day I asked for good vibes and prayers. That's because that night my mom had a cardiac arrest. She's only 51 years old, and while she did have a heart attack once before several years ago, she's been eating better and it was extremely sudden and unexpected. The chances of survival from a cardiac arrest while not in a hospital setting are extremely low. Luckily she was still in a room with my grandmother and it happened in front of her. My amazing grandmother was smart enough to call 911 right away when she collapsed and managed to perform CPR at the direction of the 911 dispatcher. Paramedics got there around 9 minutes later and managed to get her heart beating again after some CPR and a few defibrillator shocks. So anyways my mom has been in a medically induced coma for the last couple of days. The two big hurdles when someone has a cardiac arrest are getting the heart beating again and how the brain handled the lack of oxygen. After 10 minutes without oxygen the person has about a 10% chance of not being brain dead.
So she was put into a coma and then put into a hypothermic state because it's shown that doing that has had positive effects to the healing process.
Well earlier today my mom opened her eyes and was following commands after being rewarmed. She could move her hands and feet. Later tonight they took out her breathing tube and a couple hours later she was talking and responding to questions. As of right now she remembers who everyone is and most major things. Her short term memory isn't too good yet, but that's not uncommon for the first bit. There's still a long road ahead to see what kind of damage is done and what may or may not be permanent, but it feels like I've had a 200lb weight lifted off my chest. God damn my mom is one tough broad.
So again.... please find your loved ones. Give them a big ass hug and tell them you love them, because you never know if it'll be the last time you get that chance.
