Most roto leagues have limits on games played in my experience.
Pros: It's not just about counting games - some people in H2H for instance, where there are no limits, add and drop constantly in order to maximize their games played, and then they have a natural advantage in the quantity categories. I know wonk hates this style of play.
Cons: You get to the end of the season and can't start a LW because you've used up all your slots. But if you've been smart, this won't happen to you.
Up to you, Foxy, I'm down either way.

It's funny that you brought this up, because I had a fantasy panic attack last night when I looked under the "Max and Pace" area for my team. According to that I'm at a pace to run out of games on every position, like sooner rather then later.
But I looked at everyones teams under this section, and it seems everyone is on pace to run out of games.
So I don't know what you should do Fox, I understand the need for limits, but maybe they could be extended a bit, or only on certain positions like you said.
Wonk seems the most experienced in this style, so I'm sure he will have the answer for this.

The reason the league default is to have limits is because that is what makes the most sense. If you are ahead of the pace, stop starting your bench players every game, and you won't be ahead of pace.
Here is what will happen if you eliminated the limits. I would immediately drop my worst ten offensive players, creating ten super positions and add players who play games the next day. The next day, I replace each of the ten not playing that day with someone who is. That means each of my super positions would get 7 games per week. I would eventually dominate every category, because I end up playing a ton more games than you, and don't think I can't focus on +/- and ATOI to make sure I truly dominate every category, not just the accumulation categories. Then everyone gets pissed because I'm adding every player every day, and I'm so far ahead no one would ever catch me, and everyone quits playing. Eventually, I too quit playing because adding ten new players every day bores me to tears.
Its best to leave it as is. Those who created the defaults know what is fair.

It's for the best. This way, Gibbons will just dominate us all season long.

432 games played by forwards (C, LW, RW) 240 games played by defensemen (D) 48 games played by utility (UTIL) 96 games played by goalies (G)
Setting up a limit across the board was never my intention, I just kinda went with the defaults. I do have the option to edit them. Should I? |

I agree that the limits should stay in place. The only problem I have is that goalie limits are based on games played and not games started. It counts against your games played if you have a starter that gets a day off and then has to come in and play the last 10 minutes of the game because the backup has given up 8 goals. Please note that the main reason I dislike this setting is because wonk's goalie got pulled in the second period and one of my goalies took his place and ended up getting a win. I thought I had 3 wins with only two games counted toward my limit.

I don't think anyone does. The Canadians have never played this style before and the Americans couldn't name any players that got drafted after the third round.
We're all just making it up as we go along, but I'll still buy the winner a beer at Sasquatch anyway.
