I'm definitely planning on getting very familiar with both the city of Portland and its inhabitants as soon as I make the move to Seattle.

I got in on this board a little late in the game but I have a lot of housing advice if you're still in need. If not, please feel free to ignore the following... :)

The city of Portland divides up nicely into different quadrants - NW, SW, NE, SE (And let's not forget plain old N). Each area/neighborhood has a different vibe which is part of what makes Portland so awesome. If you're looking for cheaper rent but still want to be living in Portland proper and not suburbs like Gresham or Beaverton, I recommend either the East side or North Portland. That's not to say that you can't find cheap options on the West side if you do some digging, but it's generally more pricey because it's where Downtown and the Pearl District are.

KBC Management is a company that has a lot of apartment rentals around town. You may want to check there among other sites like craigslist. http://www.kbcmgmt.com/currentrentals/

Someone mentioned tattoo artists in PDX - I happen to think Infinity Tattoo in North Portland on Lombard is fantastic! All the artists are great but I have been going to Alice Kendall. I have also heard stellar things from many people regarding Atlas Tattoo. Good luck with your move!

Actually, let's do.

We used to live on Greeley; I worked graveyard at the Plaid Pantry on Greeley for a little while. That whole part of town is baaaad news.

SE is where it's at. SW is all tweekers and NW is all shopping and people who like to go shopping.

Apparently I'm in Seattle until the following Saturday after Sasquatch. I'm gonna have to finagle a little trip to Portland in the middle of that somewhere.

I actually did that drive last time I came. It's really pretty. Did a little day trip cuz my Toro Y Moi bros were playing Portland and wanted me to come and put me on the guest list. Listened to Todd Barry and Patton Oswalt the whole way to and fro. (WASN'T BORED OR FALLING ASLEEP EITHER)

We'll never see eye to eye on Pavement, Lumpy, but I am certainly a fan of stand-up comedy. And especially Patton.

And have you listened to Patton's newest album? It might be my favorite yet.

Nah. Well, maybe. Admittedly I don't often listen to stand-up recordings (except Doug Benson sometimes), but I do seek it out in live settings frequently. Whenever I visit my brother, though, he plays Patton's albums whenever we get in the car. So I've heard most of his albums, but probably not the most recent (depending on when it came out).

Well, go visit your brother and listen to it. It's called "My Finest Hour" and dare I say, the title is accurate.

Will you come jam at my flat at some point? I have crazy amounts of musical instruments. Like, sitars and cellos and mandolins and gongs and shit.

Okay, so maybe only one mandolin.

We should gather all the available boarders and converge on Bjorrito's "flat" for a crazy, atonal, utterly shit-faced jam session.
