Also look in North or North East Portland for a lot of cheaper housing options - but that would mainly be house shares where you would have several roommates.

Have something lined up before you get here or at least a lot of leads because the job market is in the shitter and there are more unemployed people moving here every day.

Remember that the weather will not be the same here and just be ready for it.

I would suggest coming here and doing some investigating yourself before you come. If nothing else, keep your eyes on Craigslist and you will be able to get a better idea of the prices of housing and the availability of jobs.

Temp agencies can be helpful in this kind of work climate, you might check those out.

Truth.

I'm in Portland a lot, but I've probably been in Seattle just as much. Parking in Seattle is enough to make me hate it. It's close to impossible to find a spot that doesn't require you to pay $10 just to park for a bit.

In Portland, you pay for apartments with a sandwich and a song, so don't worry. (I forget what comedian I'm ripping off here, I'm pretty sure Patton Oswalt.)

We went to a Dress Party this weekend (everyone was wearing a dress) and this one crazy dude called Squirrel insisted that instead of putting a bird on it, that our motto should be, "Put some hash on it!" I tended to agree, but that is just me.

Do your sandwiches have Seitan in them, Stormy? That could be a factor.

No. Although I do like the Tofurkey "deli meat" things. The peppered one is pretty good in a sandwich.

Snorlax, when you get to town, hit up a place called Northwest Staffing. They are a temp-to-hire place downtown. I send all my recently transplanted friends there and they all do fine.

I agree with what everyone is saying about where to live. Chaco and I live in PDX. But we both live in super west pdx (like over west hills deep.) The job market here is really rough, that being said there is like 2-3 call centers around that will hire damn near every one. But they are shitty shitty jobs. Gas is pretty spendy, but with how amazing our public transit is you don't really need to drive a car as long as you live near a bus or the MAX (Portland light rail system).
