I presume that's sarcastic. I think. But regardless, while that is the primary goal of this specific action, that's not demonstrative of our overall goal of systemic change so money is out of politics and all of our votes and voices carry equal value.

Shut up, frightful. Im not being spoonfed by the media, I am living through the experience just like you.
I suggest not barging into a political conversation and immediately being condescending as your reintroduction to the board.

What seems to have happened is that it went from a group of people who support a movement to the homeless community sleeping at the occupy event because the supporters give them sandwiches and smoke them out. I wonder what percent of who was left even strongly supported the cause? |
| The government shut down bathrooms and trash service, so, yeah, the parks turned to shit. The whole thing has been completely misrepresented by the media. the actions of a few have defined the characteristics of many. I would think that maybe you guys wouldve learned to be at least a little skeptical of corporate media. If you give a shit at all, you'll turn off your tv and go see for yourselves. |
|
I swore I would never get into political arguments online, but I'm probably a bit annoyed that I have to go through great measures to make it to work on time tomorrow, so...
It's probably different in other regions, but I'm pretty sure it is illegal to frequent a city park in Portland after midnight. People are claiming their first amendment rights are being violated, but the first amendment does not allow for peaceful assembly and freedom of speech in my living room. It is illegal to be in my living room uninvited, just like it is illegal to be in a Portland park after midnight. The "government" has allowed this to happen for several weeks, and guess who is paying for all of that police OT, and who is suffering for lack of funding? No one can explain to me what the actual point is, other than "awareness" and "getting involved."
And "corporate media" is not where I get my information from. I rarely watch TV outside of sports. As Flava Flav once said, "you can't truss it."
And you are a fake poster/troll anyway, I've already established that, so there you go. You suck regardless what your views on the Occupy movement is.

One advantage we have here in Boise, we started our camp much later (11 days ago) so we have been trying to learn from the mistakes of other, earlier established camps.
To me know, the porpoise of the camps is to provide us with a community in which we all can bring our multitude of grievances and stories to and discuss them wich in turn allows us to identify specific issues which we can Target in order to better our country and world. That's my take at least. The movement is defo prelude going to evolve beyond the camps, but for now its working just fine for us here.

I guess I just feel like there are bigger problems than your ability to get to work tomorrow. The protest on the bridge is not random. It's to bring attention to the fact that the steel bridge is overdue for repairs/general maintenance and the city of portland refuses to hire any number of it's unemployed to do it. I think you're confusing a small step in the process for an expression of the overall message. I don't know who you are or where you get your information, but what I've experienced first hand is radically different than what the media has portrayed. Your comments sound like regurgitations of media lies. I'm not a fake poster. I've been to Sasquatch! every year since 2008. I've posted on this board numerous times under another name. Whatever that has to do with anything. You keep thinking this will go away, but this isn't a sad failure in the continued system of revolution. It's an attempt to come together and create a revolutionary system. This is the only way for an actual representation of the american people to accomplish that in a government that has pigeonholed them into one of two broad categories. If you don't feel represented by the movement, I promise, it's really easy to go and represent yourself. Oh, and I'm pretty sure the the fed uses your tax dollar for things far more atrocious than renovations to a park.

First, I nailed your fake poster status. No one just signs up for a message board to talk shit unless they've already been done wrong.
So you are real, but you are not saying anything other than, "this is a CONCEPT that all americans should feel just about, it's bigger than you think, but you just don't get it."
So what is the point? Please sum it up in two lines or less, otherwise you sound like every other political activist spouting off random shit that means nothing to the average folk, but you somehow make us feel like we are missing something with your filibustering. If you are trying to convince me the Occupy movement is about maintenence on the Steel bridge, I will gladly call bullshit.

As an early supporter of this movement, I must say that a big reason it has lost so much public support is that no one can articulate a short, meaningful mission statement similar to what know is requesting here. The truth is there isn't a short answer to the question, and I understand that this is what makes it difficult to answer, but to answer the question with "It's about everything man" only lends less credibility to the cause.
Damn catch 22's.

I do my best to not get into political discussions while drinking, but I have one question.
When you say this:
