Didja know:

Jim Carrey was originally cast as "Dr. Evil" in Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, but he had to drop out of the role due to a scheduling conflict with Liar Liar.

Additionally, he was considered for the roles of Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Those roles, of course, eventually went to Johnny Depp.

Those movies would be so much more different!

In the meantime, Jim Carrey single-handedly demolished the first and probably only film adaptation of Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events. After the first two or three books in that series started to gain some popularity, an interviewer asked author Daniel Handler if he thought the books would be made into movies. Handler responded with something like, "I don't know, maybe; I'm just afraid that if they were we'd have someone like Jim Carrey as Count Olaf."

I was very disappointed in that series. I know several people who feel as though he (and Ron Howard) man handled The Grinch.

However, I will always have a soft spot in my heart for that dope. He makes me laugh and I loved his career in the late 80's-mid 90's. I even enjoy a few of his movies from this decade.

And I will openly admit I've seen Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls probably more than anyone else on this planet. It is one of my guilty pleasure/sick day/bad day movies.

I'll never say he is the best comedian or the best actor, but I am a believer that he certainly deserves some more credit for his abilities than a lot of people give him sometimes and he will remain at the top of my list as one of my favorite comedians. Carol Burnett remains my favorite comedienne.

And for the sake of staying on topic for this thread, a 10-year old Carrey did send his resume to Burnett, apparently.
