looks like the Braves stepped into the Justin Upton sweepstakes. Wouldn't that be some kinda outfield... Justin Upton in left, B.J. Upton in Center and Heyward in right.

Sounds like baseball isn't a year round sport for you. The Braves have been in on Justin Upton since they singed BJ Upton. The word is the Diamondbacks have unreasonably large expectations for what they want in return, and the talks started and ended with that SS kid who has a name like andresimmonsheltonsmithjohnny or something. The Diamondbacks then got a Jeter wannabe from the Reds in the three team trade with Cleveland (the Choo deal), and stopped looking for a SS.
This part is purely my speculation, but if the Braves weren't willing to part with the only piece the Diamondbacks were interested in, why would the Diamondbacks be interested in anything the Braves have if they no longer want that piece?
It makes sense to join the two brothers with nearly unlimited ceilings to see if they can push each other into super duper stardom (which I think they would), but the Braves still need to overpay for this to work.

Ok.... I should have said, it looks like the Braves are BACK in the Justin Upton sweepstakes.
Yes, the Braves were in for Justin Upton a few months ago, but dropped out when Arizona asked for Andrelton Simmons. The Braves continued to monitor everything, but from afar... especially when they were pushing hard with teams like Seattle (who Justin vetoed the trade to) and Texas. However, now that Texas has backed off. Atlanta is the only team that remains. I highly doubt the Braves are going to overpay. If they have to overpay, then the deal won't happen.

Wow...
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/01/br....edium=facebook
A 6-man trade...
Braves get Justin Upton and Chris Johnson Arizona get Martin Prado, Randall Delgado and two prospects (Nick Ahmed and Zeke Spruill)
Initial thoughts:
While it really hurts to lose Martin Prado, the guy's going to be a free agent at the end of 2013. Maybe the Braves make a move for him after the season ends?
As for Randall Delgado, he's a good young pitcher. Not great, but has the potential to be a #3 starter... more realistically, he's a #4.
As for Nick Ahmed? He's a solid prospect, but with Andrelton Simmons on the team, there's nowhere for him to play.
Zeke Spruill's never done much for me down on the farm. He's alright. But doesn't have that high of a ceiling.
The Braves now go into 2013 with one of the most dynamic outfields in MLB. They're going to platoon third base with Chris Johnson and Juan Francisco - and they'll probably get anywhere from 20-30 Home Run from that position.
This deal seems to really benefit both teams.

No Bourn, Prado or Chipper... I have no idea what the Braves lineup is gonna look like.

If this is true, it pretty much guarantees that A-Rod won't be going to the Hall. At this point, he'll be lucky to still be playing baseball this time next year.

This continues to be a boring issue for me. Professional athletes take steroids, fact. So what? A-rod should still be a first ballot Hall of Famer, and that article was ridiculously critical. He made every cent of his contract until this past season when his hip went out (it was a hip, I think?).
Why is this a bigger story than Ray Lewis, who murders people and does steroids? I have a theory, but I'm not dumb enough to state it. It has something to do with who cared about the NFL v. MLB 40 years ago.
The Uptons, I don't really have an opinion other than what I've stated, great move for the Braves. I agree with Chud, thankfully the Rangers didn't get him. Has it been confirmed yet that we all get our offseason baseball news from mlbtraderumors.com? I remember when that site was only Dierks writing. I'm a mlbtraderumors hipster.

I believe it is the hips. As in "look at these the hips" or "Have you seen the hips" or "Where's my the hips?"

Mariners fans, is Geoff Baker ever right? I appreciate that he thinks outside of the box, but it seems like every time I hear him quoted, he is completely fucking wrong.

I don't like to listen to anything that any of the M's writers say. I listen to a lot of sports radio if I am working on the road and they drive me crazy. Are you referring to the Franklin Gutierrez trade idea?

Sort of. We both read the same site, and that comment lead to my post, but it wasn't about the Gutierrez trade idea. It was more about him thinking the Mariners need to make a move to get a shitty SP.
By far the biggest reason I don't the guy is because he doesn't seem to have any insider knowledge at all. Mike DiGiovanna for the Angels knows shit, and I'm almost positive he broke the Pujols and Hamilton signings before anyone else knew it. Jane Lee and Susan Slusser for the A's report what the people in the organization tell them. The ESPN guys have a lot of insider info, and the Boston guy seems to know a thing or two. Yet every time Geoff Baker is quoted, it's something like, "Geoff Baker thinks the Mariners should double dog dare Justin Upton to waive his no trade clause." Actually, that's probably a lot funnier than anything he's said, but the worth is similar.

I think I started on MLB Traderumors back in 2007? I remember when Dierks posted his first open-call for new writers.
Love that site.
