Occasionally I forget more than six of us read this thread, but I did mean to post a video about said 'hilarious leg injury' just in case other regulars stumbled upon my post. I didn't find a decent shot of it, so I'll tell you what happened. The dude hit a walk-off grand slam. Game over. He rounds third and jogs home towards his teammates, who are waiting for him to touch home plate so they can give him hugs and high fives. A couple feet short of home plate, he decides to jump in the air and land on home plate as the coup de grace. He lands awkwardly, breaks his leg, and missed the rest of 2010 and all of 2011.
Luckily for Mariners fans, he went from an enormous contender to the second worst team in the West, so he won't be jumping for joy.

The A's have also had an amazingly inept offense over the last few years, with little to none right handed power hitters. It was much better this past season with CesPEDes and the hit or miss Chris Carter domination. Chris Young will help fill the Gomes loss, and who knows what the Japan dude can do. A guy who historically beat up a terrible offense doesn't mean he can continue to beat up a much improved offensive lineup (I know you know this, but I'm saying it anyway).

Ah Rich Harden, my second favorite emergency bullpen catcher, behind Eric Chavez. They are the only two players in recent memory to hit the DL because of a full-body injury. I still root for the guy, he had so much potential in that tiny frame.
And the Mariners recent blockbuster signing, Raul Ibanez, who will be a great play on the road at Yankee stadium, the only ballpark he can hit the ball out of with their little league short porch in right field. But he hit the first homer at Safeco or some insignificant stat like that.

I agree with this 100% (though the iamge of him whipping players while music that you would expect to be playing inside the Kremlin rings in the background is quite hilarious.)
History shows that he's been willing to go after the big free agent (see Adrian Beltre). Unfortunately, star players are more willing to take less money in order to be somewhere other than Oakland. I think Lew has done a fine job as Owner.
The San Jose thing really chaps my hide.

I was reading that the M's have been talking to the Dodgers about potentially trading for Andre Ethier. I also have read that the talks have stopped over the past week. I really liked following him last year (he was on my fantasy team). What do you guys think of him?

Ethier is a solid player, but his contract is a scary... no thanks.
Also, his splits are frightening. The dude, straight up, can't hit left handed pitching.
Take a look at his 3 year breakdown...

Acquiring a player like Ethier isn't going turn their franchise around. I'm not sure there's any one single player that can do that for Seattle. Bottom line? Seattle needs to trade Felix for an ass-ton of prospects and go back to the drawing board. Develop, develop, develop and see what they've got in like three years. Sorry.

Contract year dude, that's why you liked following him last year. You also must not have realized he was a pile of feces starting at about the exact time he signed his contract extension, which was early June for some stupid reason. Check out his 2012 monthly splits in the link posted above. He was a league leader in RBIs, and had a very respectable OPS before he got paid, then he went back to his usual lazy ways. That's the reason the A's gave up on him as a prospect way back when, and chose to take (if you can believe this) Milton Bradley over him. Lolol.
Plus, as mentioned, he can't hit lefties, and his contract makes him virtually untradable outside of a straight up salary dump.
Now back to Giancarlo Stanton, who is in the news much more recently, now that the Marlins are publicly listening to trade offers. I can't stress how much it makes sense for Billy Beane to get Stanton.
1. The A's aren't as broke as everyone thinks. They just can't find people worth spending money on to take their money. They can easily afford Stanton's three arbitration years, especially since he's basically free in 2013.
2. Billy Beane has always sought power bats, but they've been impossible to find in free agency (outside of the giant CesPEDes gamble). He knows he has trade for one.
3. The A's won the west. They don't need to continue stock piling prospects to keep their payroll low. It's time to win, especially with that extra wild card and the extra wins with all those games against Houston. Flip those prospects for a stud.
4. They've historically had bad luck with offensive prospects flourishing, so why not flip a giant package of prospects to get that power hitter with the highest upside of any power hitter any of us have seen since we've been alive?
5. If something doesn't work out, Beane can recoup some of what he's lost by trading Stanton.
6. I can't see my favorite hitter going to an AL West rival two years in a row. The Mariners and Rangers are front-runners for Stanton. Take that bat from your rivals.
I still don't think Stanton will be traded, but I know the Marlins expected return is unreasonable right now. It will drop when all other 29 teams have a chance to call the Marlins idiots.

Yeah I did notice the last couple of months that he wasn't doing as well. I didn't realize he was in the A's organization at one point.
I can't wait for fantasy baseball next year. That was fun.

I don't have any faith that we will get something like that done. If the Rangers get Stanton that will drive me crazy. When you say that the M's and Rangers are front runners that does get me a little pumped though. I am guessing that is based on us packaging together all of our "big 3" (Paxton, Hultzen, Walker) and maybe someone else?
