THE OAKLAND ATHLETICS ARE THE BEST STORY IN BASEBALL PERIOD |

There are tons of great baseball stories this year, I'm not sure which one is my favorite.
-Nationals first ever division title. -Oakland and Baltimore completely surprising the AL -Chipper Jones going back to the playoffs in his final season as a ballplayer. -The Phillies sucking ass all season long.

If they're going to add another wild card team into the mix, it completely baffles me that they couldn't make the Wild Card round a 3-game series. What's the point of a one game playoff? To prevent the playoffs from going into November? If the world series goes to 7-games, the final game will be in November anyway. So what's two or three more days?

I thought the idea was dumb the first time I heard it, but I'm all for it now. I believe winning the division means something, and this new system is rewarding the division winners, and punishing the wild card teams, while adding more excitement to the end of the season. The biggest reason I like it is because the Wild Cards are typically going to have to use one of their best pitchers in the one game playoff, meaning they'll only get to pitch once (likely) in the first round series. That's a huge advantage for the team getting to play the Wild Card winner (I assume it's the team with the best record in the division), especially if that ace you only face once is someone like Verlander.
Wild Cards have won too many World Series already, so making their road tougher is fine with me. The only people who really have a gripe are the fans of the team finishing first in the Wild Card having to play a one game playoff where last year they were guaranteed a five game series. Case in point...

I don't follow baseball too closely but being in the bay area with two teams in the playoffs and the A's having a shot at the division tomorrow night is pretty thrilling. 49ers success doesn't hurt. It's buzzing around here.

I was completely derailed tonight while hanging out with friends when I saw Guillermo Fucking Mota pitching for the Giants in the 7th inning of a close game. WHAT IN THE FUCKING FUCK?
I'll explain...
Melky Cabrera was having an outstanding season with the Giants when he made headline news for testing positive for PEDs (Performance Enhancing Drugs). He was suspended 50 games with around 55 games left to play in the season. Some shit happened after the fact (including MLB disqualifying Cabrera of the batting title he might still win), but the Giants decided they would not accept Cabrera back if they made the post season. It was a PR move. The Giants basically made a statement, "We do not cheat, so we don't want Melky Cabrera back." He'll try to catch on with another team next season now that his suspension is over.
Guillermo Mota is in the exact same situation as Melky, except he was suspended 100 games back in May for testing positive for a PED for the second time. Yet the Giants accepted him back when his suspension ended, and used him tonight when leading late in the game. HOW IS THIS EVEN FUCKING POSSIBLE? The answer, because no one gives a shit when someone nobody has heard of tests positive for PEDs. The Giants tried to play the "we don't cheat" card, yet fully accepted back someone who got caught TWICE.
In a related note, former major leaguer and current minor leaguer speedster Joey Gathright was suspended recently for using PEDs. He's a pencil in shoes whose only redeeming quality is stealing bases.
I'll never understand how MLB and the media in general can implicate players who never tested positive for PEDs (like Mark McGwire), but routinely look the other way when lesser known players such as middle reliever Guillermo Mota and shitty speedster Joey Gathright get busted. EVERYONE IS DOING IT, BUT ONLY THE GOOD PLAYERS GET FUCKED.

While I'm still celebrating the A's Division title, I have to tip my hat to Miguel Cabrera. The first triple crown in 45 years. People who vote Trout for MVP should never be allowed to vote again, because they are fucking idiots.

The A's fans are the best. That place was rowdy fucking loud, to the point where after Fielder hit the solo HR in the 4th, Verlander was caught on camera screaming, "SHUT THE FUCK UP," and the camera following Fielder to the dugout was close enough to hear him screaming, "SHUT UP, SHUT UP." I'm all for celebration, but it seemed really classless that two of the good guys in baseball would be smack talking fans for being too loud? Keep it up fans.
I do believe in Karma, and Fielder later made an error leading to the first A's run (even though it should have been ruled a hit), and the A's came back and won in the 9th. Here's hoping the Karma gods haven't let Verlander off the hook just yet...

And remember Al Alberquerque is still do some as well. Good thing Braden wasn't in the dugout.

Wow, I didn't even see that. I was in a pickle Sunday, unable to find a seat at the bar where I could see both the NFL and MLB. The A's game was on in the back corner, so I was running back and forth at the end of the game. I saw the comebacker, and immediately went back to the other room to watch NFL, so I missed the kiss by a couple seconds. What a douche.
