I like this show most when I have absolutely no idea whether I should trust the protagonists or not.
Sunday's most recent episode was a perfect example of that. Brody's playing a game of show and tell - but can we actually trust everything that he's telling us? Yes? No? Who the fuck knows?
|
Yes! Definitely back on track after those two awful episodes. That was great. I have no idea who to believe.
Although I'm still rolling my eyes about the most wanted terrorist on earth being able to get into America....
CBS developing a television show based on Stephen King's Under the Dome.

Fuuuuucking awesome. All things considered, Under the Dome is probably my favorite Stephen King novel, and it's just fucking perfect as the basis of a television show.

Okay so I have to read Under the Dome. My dad loved it, and he's a Stephen King aficionado too. I actually have the audiobook, I just don't have 50 hours of my life to spare at the moment.

I don't know. Some of the movies and tv shows made from his books are pretty disappointing. Aren't you worried they'll just fuck it up.

The problems with television adaptations of King's novels are usually attributable to a studio trying to cram 800+ pages of material into a 2-4 hour miniseries. Under the Dome is planned as a season-long arc of 13 episodes, which will give them plenty of room to do what they need to do.
It's a very complex story with a shit-ton of characters, but it is also on a relatively small scale. I'm pretty confident that it's going to be good.
That said, I've really enjoyed the majority of the adaptations that have come before. IT, while really only loosely based on the novel, is a classic. The Stand pretty much nailed it, and the Steven Weber Shining was decent. The Langoliers gave me fucking nightmares (shut up).

The Langoliers is brilliant, and the Shining miniseries was actually really dope. Tommyknockers was absolutely horrifying too.

Man, fuckin' Desperation though... What a turd. As the book that sent me on an eleven month, 20 book Stephen King tear it was almost painful to watch what they did to it in that TV movie.
I didn't realize they made a miniseries of The Tommyknockers, I'm gonna have to check that one out. The book was a real slow burn, but it made me uneasy in a way that none of his other books did.
Drew, for fuckin' reals though read Under the Dome. I know it's a beast, but after the first fifty pages I got into this compulsive state of mind and I tore through it in under two weeks. One of the most excellent villains King ever wrote.

Actually, TWO of the most excellent villains King ever wrote.
Goddamn, that book hits the ground running on the very first page and it doesn't let up until the very last line. Not a wasted sentence, just a thousand pages of free-falling NO FUCKING WAY THAT JUST HAPPENED.
