The Lighter Conundrum:

I don't need a lighter much. I don't smoke illegal drugs, but I do enjoy a cigarette while drinking here and there, and a cigar when I'm celebrating. I don't steal lighters, but I know a lot who do. Every time I go out, I have a lighter on me. It usually comes in handy for those who smoke. I'm pretty good about asking them for it back too. Whenever I wake up without a lighter, I think, "crap, I never asked that chick who was smoking crack to give me my lighter back."

A little over a year ago, I saw a brown Bic lighter. I had never seen a Bic that color before. I bought one every time I saw one, which was about six times in two months. Believe it or not, having a brown Bic was cool. People would tell me all the time, "wow, I've never seen that color before."

Fast forward to the reason of this post. I have not bought a lighter since I bought those six brown lighters last year, but blue lighters have been showing up everywhere lately. I was doing some spring cleaning earlier today, and realized I now own five blue bic lighters, but no brown ones? I'm glad my lighters weren't straight up stolen, but I really liked the brown ones. If anyone sees someone using a brown lighter, let me know so I can burn down their habitat (with a blue lighter). Thank you.

I always carry matches with me. Lighters piss me off. I have to pop those child proof clips off before I start drinking or I end up crying in a corner wondering what I did to anger the fire gods.

I just went out to dinner (supper?) with my mother and sister-in-law and am trying to Dr. Garbanzoure out how Edmonton works. North in E-Town is West in Sea-Town, I swear it.

Hey Lumpy, how did Death Week go? The David Liebe Hart show went down, yeah?

I made it through and it was a lot of fun!

A (hopefully) abridged version of the events:

Monday night played a show with this band I've been filling in on drums for while the drummer was getting married (which is awesome because they're my favorite local band and some of my best friends). Unfortunately I was feeling like I was about to be sick earlier that day. And it completely came to a head during the show. We didn't actually start playing till around midnight, but I was getting cold sweats the whole time. But I love playing those songs, so that kept me going through. I think overworking myself caused my immune system just to say "fuck you."

Tuesday, I got out of work and only went to one of the 2 band practices I had planned that night as I had a pretty intense cold.

Wednesday I went to work and had a band practice and got a good night's sleep.

Which led to me to feeling basically 90% on the next show on Thursday with Southern Femisphere, though 2 of the other 3 members were sick 2, and one of our members lost her voice. And her vocals are pretty crucial. I tried to sing her parts where I could. It was a fun show, but there was so much going on in Charleston that night that only about 20 people showed up. And a lot of it was last minute because the touring bands I was gonna have play accidentally double-booked and couldn't play the show.

David Liebe Hart was fun. He did his full band thing like last time, but this time around he brought a puppet and did songs with the puppet at the end of the set. Hits like "Mango In My Coke" and actually a few songs from Tim and Eric though he's legally not allowed to. But he basically changed around the lyrics and melody enough so it wasn't even the same song, so that probably helped. I also bought a DVD from him entitled: "David Liebe Hart's UFO Worlds". I still haven't watched it yet. I want people to be with me when this happens. Will report when I watch it. It was Boring Portals first show back after a while too, so that was nice and refreshing to get to do. That's my super Oh Sees influenced band, so that was a lot of fun.

The next night another band I'm in played this event called "Skinful Halloween" It's basically this costume party featuring scantily clad costumes (this year, g-strings were very popular) that's evolved into Charleston's favorite Halloween event and a kinda mini-music festival. A lot of fun too despite the fact we were basically a lone rock band playing with a bunch of DJ's, jam bands, and burlesque (this thing is big too, 8 different stages going from about 8PM-5AM). I think a lot of the EDM Sasquatch boarders would've loved it. That's just me. Didn't get to bed till 7:30 so there's that. But that's nothing new for you people.

(This: http://www.skinfulhalloween.com/ )

The next night (Sunday) was our yearly Halloween cover show, got to play drums in a Heart band and The Sonics band with a bunch of friends and that was a lot of fun. Some other friends did a really great Fugazi band and a New Order band. Weirdest was our local kinda gypsy-punk-country-Americana band Royal Tinfoil did Ween, and all I could do was think of you guys. Honestly I didn't really recognize the songs they did. I remember Bananas and Blow happening. And I think they played at least one song off 12 Golden Country Greats (which of course makes sense given their style), so that was fun. Made me miss y'alllll.

Then last night backed my friend Brian up on a super last minute show (organized about 3 days ago) with Woods. I think they had a day off and the venue really wanted them to come, and they knew my friend Brian made sense with them. Woods was killer. It's a shame there was only like 20 people there, but doing a Monday show after a super party filled Halloween weekend in Charleston is difficult.

So yeah, a lot of fun was had. And even though around the weekend, I was freaking out that my sickness was going to come back to blow up in my face, it didn't. All I'm doing tonight is nothing: playing Zelda and watching Netflix. It's nice.

So that was my week.

In other news, I think my roommate's cat loves me more than my roommate, for which I feel guilty.

For someone who typically keeps his replies short and sweet, I do enjoy Lumpy paragraphs. Props for being a good writer.

Aww shucks, coming from the Sasquatch board's version of Statler and Waldorf, that means a lot.
