Sadly, Fish Magician passed away in July last year, right before his 23rd birthday.

He was the bestest friend I ever had. I think he went peacefully, though. He had developed Shingles at the start of the year and I needed to brush them away from his skin twice a day. He always seemed to like it so much. I think it really soothed him, though I did need to give him his sedative always 1 hour before the shingle brushing away. Perhaps it was that which soothed him so. Anyway, I always used these brushing sessions as a time to just sit and talk with him, he was the best listener! (Especially after the sedative. He he.) and after each session he'd shake the Shingle flakes away from his skinny hips and turn to me and give me the most comforting "meow". On the day he died, he never did shake his crusted Shingles away, he never did turn to me... he just kept sleeping with the soothing memory of a friend who cared for him deeply and the soft bristles of a brush easing him into the most comforting of sleeps.

At least that's what I want to think.

My mom gave me enough money (she said it is for my next 6 birthdays) to have Fish Magician stuffed. I don't think the taxidermist did a very good job, though. A lot of people tell me it looks like a "fake" cat, which really hurts to hear, but at times I think they are right.

How does he look to you?

Well I cooked up my kidney beans last night (that's right, I am going fancy this time) and I just printed out the official Oscar ballots. Chili making occurs tonight and then it will sit and get even tastier until Sunday. Our one party of the year is shaping up nicely.

If I leave right after work I could make it. Let's just brainstorm a really good excuse so I can miss work on Sunday and Monday

Tell them Fish Magician died and you are going on a spirit quest to honor his memory.
