| | The Girly Thread « Thread Started on Jan 15, 2011, 12:12am » | |
I've noticed an overwhelming lack of female voices on the boards.
That's okay, but last year was my first year at Sasquatch and I was a little clueless about the fashion of Sasquatch, knowing when the best times were to avoid the ungodly lines for the showers, and how to "rough it" with class while camping. I wish I had someone to ask about these things.
I read the boards often, but I rarely join the conversations because I've felt outnumbered by testosterone. That's totally fine, but I hope to make this a thread for everyone so we can address all of the guilty-girly questions, music gossip, and whatever else we may feel silly talking about in front of the sausage-fest.
So here it goes--Anyone heard about summer 2011's fashion? Sundresses are always a staple and an easy go-to, but anyone heard about some good sites to buy them?

I am so happy about this thread. The thing I love, after music, is fashion. And books, but that's another board. I have been at Sasquatch every year since 2006. I have taken the easy way out and worn band t's and cargo capri pants for the most part. That being said, I have also worn some cute skirts and tanks. The problem with trying to be too cute is the weather. We've experienced hail, major winds (that shut down the mainstage) and "tarantula" downpours. Whatever you decide to wear for most of the afternoon is fine. Once the sun goes down it is COLD. Okay, I'm Canadian and I'm saying it gets cold. You know that is serious. You have to have jeans or other long pants, a windbreaker and a hoodie doesn't hurt either. The cutest outfit I ever saw at Sasquatch was a grrl in a sundress carrying a Japanese parasol. She looked so nice and I felt like a bit of an underachiever in my Elvis Costello t. (Though EC is always appropriate.) Grrls attend Sasquatch too. Don't let the petulant boys scare you from the boards!

lol Oh man I am so happy for this thread as well! Why did it take so long for someone to think of this? I generally have a sundress but I always bring in jeans or comfy pants of some sort into the festival so I dont freeze to death at night! I just wear them under my dress... Why not? It IS an outdoor festival might as well mix it up right?

Funnygrrl--That's SUCH a good point that I forgot to mention--it does get pretty chilly at night. I came to the Gorge from Atlanta last year and was told by many to pack warm for when the sun sets. When I got back to the campsite, I was freezing my butt off.
I just made sure to pack a hoodie and jeans in the bag I took into the festival. So, if there are any new girls heading to the Gorge this year, make sure to follow the weather reports and pack accordingly.

This may be better suited for the frat boy thread you should start. Just sayin'.
Let's keep it classy, boys.
Like I said, there is an overwhelming amount of testosterone voices on the boards, and although I know it is cliche to immediately start talking about clothes on this thread, I Dr. Garbanzoured it would be the easiest topic to begin.
I've noticed a lot of people mentioning they like the idea of this thread, so if you have a problem with it, its pretty easy to just not post on here. It would make you look less like a d-bag, too.

If the ladies want their own thread, there is no reason men should be arguing about personal issues here.
I moved all the bitching to this thread:

Hey girls! Yay, girls to talk to!!
I am all about hoodies and jeans, I think that makes the most sense, since it is in May not August, and it can get really cold. I was thinking about bringing my 2 little children with me to Sasquatch this year (it is all ages) so my question is: Have you seen many children there in the past years? And if so, do you think it can be an OK environment for them? as far as respect and things like that? They both love music and have been to concerts before - they loved Bjork and talk about it all the time.

(not a girl, but I may be able to help answer this one...)
I saw a few children at Sasquatch last year. As far as it being an OK environment? I don't recall many people getting too rowdy. Also if you keep on or around the Hill instead of down in the Pit areas, I don't think you'd have much of a problem.
My only concern is if you decide to Camp for the entire festival... Four days of camping might be a little too much for the lil ones. Additionally, there isn't much of side entertainment for kids there, like you would see at other festivals like Lolla or Bonnaroo. At Sasquatch it's all about the music. But if they love music as much as you say they do, they could have some serious fun.

Every time I see kids - under ten, eleven or so - at Sasquatch, I think what? BABIES HATE SASQUATCHES. It's all about the music at Sasquatch, as stamper says, but that music is loud as hell. You are exposed at all times to the elements, which can include every kind of weather imaginable. Drug use is rampant, and no matter where you are sitting you will be able to smell pot smoke and see it being smoked. People lose control at Sasquatch like any other festival - for all the hugs and good vibes, there's still assholes who can't handle their shit. Bear in mind that even if your small child likes music, he/she probably doesn't care as much as you and probably doesn't want to spend 12+ hours a day hearing it - again, amplified beyond all reasonable levels for a child.
And lastly, of course: NO RE-ENTRY. So if you THINK your kid wants to go, better make sure because if he/she wants to LEAVE, you're not going to want to make him/her find her way back to the campground his/herself.
Look, I hate to say this but don't bring your kids to Sasquatch.

Ok, cool, thanks for your answer! I just didn't want to be the only crazy person with kids in tow. We are still up in the air about bringing them, but they do love music and if it's all about the music that's what we are looking for.
