Sound of bands (in general)

Is it me, or was the sound for many of the bands playing the main stage and Bigfoot stages higher on the bass/lower frequency than in other years? The only other time I have attended this festival was in 2008, when there was not nearly as much bass behind the sound of each band (e.g. R.E.M., Stephen Malkmus). And I'm not talking about Deadmau5 btw.

It seemed fine for me through the whole weekend except for ween, where all i could hear was the fucking bass.

I thought the sound at the main stage was amazing!!Big change from previous years..The solar stage is gonna need some work...it was kinda ehh

i thought the bigfoot stage was the worst out of the three stages as far as layout/sound was concerned. the rest of the stages were good & i had no problem with the sound for ween.. but i was up in the first few rows for the second half of the show

the fact that the sound kept cutting out during public enemy was a huge letdown. couldn't even hear half of what i watched.. we just left for massive attack

i thought the sound was better than ever on the mainstage but the bigfoot stage really needed some work. It got better over the weekend I think but for Portugal. The Man it was painfully quiet

I didn't notice any change at Bigfoot or Yeti, but it seems as though they seriously upgraded the mainstage.

Okay, that makes sense, since even the folk-esque groups (e.g. Midlake) were much louder and more bass-intensive that I would have expected to hear, or that I remember from 2008.

Also, I thought Portugal. The Man was fine, but that's probably just a matter of preference.

the mainstage definitely had more bass, the only time I got up in the front of the crowd the whole weekend was for Broken Social Scene and the bass almost blew the hat off my head. i also think singers' voices were a lot clearer from up on the hill this year.

I noticed the bass problem with Edward Sharpe. I was pretty far back and didn't stick around long, though, so maybe they fixed it?

That's interesting that Portugal. the Man was especially quiet on the Bigfoot stage. When Cymbals Eat Guitars were playing, I could hear it from almost the entire grounds.

Wookie stage was WAY too fucking loud. I really dig that they expanded that huge lawn to make room for people trying to enjoy STELLAR middle tier acts, but it was SO loud it bled into the Comedy tent. Patton spent a good 1/4 of his set just trying to hear himself think.

It was even louder during Todd Barry's set. (I attended both.) Todd Barry had to go against the Seattle Rock Orchestra. (And spent a good time ripping on them for not doing either Beethoven or original material. Barry: "Alright, now I'm going to do an hour of Richard Pryor's material.")

So, some board members agree that the bass (and volume for that matter) was too loud - to the point where sound bleeding became a 'major' problem.
Do any of you think this will persist next year? Perhaps there are not enough people like myself (and a few others) that are concerned about this to enlist change. After all, some loved the sound of the main stage.

I bet they'll at least improve it a little by next year. However, the bleed into the comedy tent from Bigfoot/Wookie is bittersweet. Of course it gets in the way of the standup sets. But at the same time, it allows for hilarious responses from the comedians. (I feel over 90% (if not 100%) of the standup sets attended involved the comedian talking about the music bleed at some point. However, I don't count Tim and Eric, because they had super loud music of their own.)
