I'm a bit biased because I'm a huge Pavement fan, but this article sums up why I loved their set: http://lineout.thestranger.com/lineout/a....em-and-pavement

for everyone complaining about pavement, just keep in mind that it could have looked like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ojx4PfmgoE

or this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GI5akIHu99E&feature=related

This is part of their charm. I thought the set was great I had a ton of fun in a mini mosh pit with a group of fellow pavement fans jumping and shouting along with the songs

This was my 6th sasquatch, but I'm glad this topic is here because I think it's very likely this was the best one yet. I would kill to be able to travel back to the fun I was having during Massive Attack alone. The whole experience was amazing

This will be my last post on the sasquatch forum since it is now complete, but I feel I need to defend Pavement to the folks who seem to just not understand the lost essence of early nineties indie rock.

Pavement is an INDIE rock show. The reason they messed up on a song was because the bass guitar was experiencing errors. That IS the essence of indie rock: cheap instruments, a playful deconstruction of grunge rock music, goofy, slacker attitudes towards rock music and the crowd in general (e.g. Malkmus), and so on. The movement was designed to deconstruct, give satire to, and so forth, everything that is supposedly "rock" or "alternative" (has anyone even ever heard Modest Mouses' early music? or Guided By Voices?). This is what the so-called "indie" bands at Sasquatch this year (e.g. Vampire Weekend, which was the worst and most boring show of the entire weekend) were missing. There is nothing subversive about Vampire Weekend or MGMT. They are not Indie Rock. Pavement is subversive. Quasi was subversive this year at the fest (for the lucky few who were able to see them). Ween is subversive.

Understand the roots of indie rock before deriding Pavement's show.

it seriously amuses me that people will defend such a shit performance only by saying things like "that's just how they are" and "you just don't get indie rock, man". great, good for them if they want to be different and stuff, but they should have done so at another festival (or at least on the bigfoot stage) since the majority of the crowd wasn't getting into them at all. i'm not a big fan of vampire weekend but saying their set was the most boring of the weekend is hilariously ignorant. compare the number of people dancing to VW to the ones dancing for pavement. everyone on the hill was sitting down for pavement, many covering their ears or walking away in disgust.

I can't stand Vampire Weekend but I watched them to get a good spot for MMJ and I was pretty impressed with how the crowd was into it. I still don't like them especially since that was like the fifth time I've seen them (my wife drags me to them) but I'm always happy to see other people so happy. I even danced with them to join in the fun!

That said, I'm still bummed I did watch any of the Nada Surf set though.

You missed an amazing show. Nada Surf's set time was the cruelest of the whole weekend. To go up against Vampire Weekend was a tragedy. They (nada) put on one of the best sets of the weekend. The crowd was super pumped and they played 4 songs off their new covers album including an incredible cover of Depeche Mode's "Enjoy the Silence". I've seen them three times and they blew the roof off the bigfoot this year, plus they had two guys backing up the usually tight trio. It's a shame the masses were at VW.

All the reason for that time machine. I've never been to Sasquatch before but I've been to many other festival's and if you want a good spot you need to get there early. Well if I had to do it over again, I would have watch the full set of Nada Surf and made it over the MMJ with no problem since it seemed a ton of people left at VW.

I love how polarized all the Pavement opinions are. Everyone either loved them or hated them and there seems to be no middle ground. This much is true.

I am still fucking pumped on the fact that I saw Pavement.

I co-sign this thread's original post forever.

This was definitely the best weekend of my life, too. I still have dreams about it, haha. Definitely going to become an annual Sasquatcher after this.
