Hey lablu We're also coming from Alberta (Lethbridge) on thursday and planning on getting to Sasquatch at around 10:30 am, which we think should be fine, since the camping area is effin massive. Shame you can't leave til after work; we're driving down thursday and camping in Potholes state park the night before! That being said, since you'll be there friday you should check out the Friday party thread.

You can't get into the campground until noon on Friday.

I think her question was more is it worth trying to get there a couple hours before entry, and what that line is like?
I'm not going to be able to help with what the line is like, but I'm guessing it is minimal at worst. Granted, it is nice to have one of the first 1,300 spots or so, to be close to the entrance, but I have shown up mid evening Friday night, and once after dark, and still got a great spot, way before overfill started filling up.
You should get a great spot showing up anytime during the day Friday. And since you don't know me, you won't be able to track me down if I'm wrong.

You nailed the question, and thanks for the answer! I'm glad to hear we will still get a decent spot for camping. You have sparked another question though... I understand there are no trees, so essentially it's just a parking lot. Do you get to choose where you camp, or is it just staff directing you where to go?

There are no trees, no designated spots or any "areas" of that nature. It's a HUGE field, and the staff people point you to where you're supposed to camp. I recommend camping close to a porta-potty station (that's how they number the sections, so when you're stumbling back from the concert you know you're "near number 17!"). But don't get too close to the potties. Last year the dumb traffic person tried to put us RIGHT NEXT to the porta-potty, and there was just no way. So he had to call his supervisor to let us move on to the next section. Douche. Anyway, that's my two cents about the tent-car-camping area-ness. Oh, and great idea going on Friday, it's way easier that way. Wish we were going on Friday, but we're staying for Monday for the first time this year, and we don't want to run out of ice! So we're cutting out friday camping.

, thanks for the tip about knowing where you parked by knowing which porta potty you are next to. Sucks that they dont have specified sections.
But you are saying that you dont want to run out of ice. I thought you could buy ice at the campground, at like a general store? Am I wrong about that?

Yes, ice is available at the general store. Showing up a day late based on ice is a very questionable decision. I don't recall them running out of ice at the store, since they have an ice maker. The only downside is that it is a 30 minute commute there and back, since it is about a 15 minute walk each way. I like going for a walk in the mornings either way, so you can call me Ice Man, at least to my crew.

Good to know, thanks. Showing up a day late to conserve ice seemed like a highly questionable decision.

Hello!
I'm hoping to bring a bag w/all the essentials each day to the festival. Just wondering if there is any kind of locker/bag check arrangement when we wanna get up close so there isn't some bag all up in everyones space.
Anyone know? Otherwise I guess we will just have to keep it close.

I am not 100% sure about this, but I don't recall ever seeing a bag check. My best advice is to find "campers" in the rock garden, and ask them if you can leave your bags with them. Everyone is pretty cool there, so I doubt anyone would mind, since they are "camping" either way. Offer to buy them a $12 beer, and you are gold. No one is going to mess with your gear there.

When you say you smuggled beer in. How did you do it? Are they patting you down and checking through bags?

We're coming down from Calgary, and we've decided to go through Cranbrook. I am wondering what you guys recommend, it terms of if we should leave on Thursday or Friday? Our original plan was to leave at like 7:00AM on Friday and arrive at around 5:00-6:00pm that night. After reading some posts, I am worried that we will have a bad time getting a decent campsite and we could be forced to set up camp when it's dark.. which would suck. Leaving Thursday night would mean that we would have to spend extra money on motels and stuff... which we're trying to avoid too. Any suggestions?

Leave Friday morning. Sure it is nice to get one of the closest camp sites to the venue, but that is not going to happen for most of us.
The sun sets around 7:45, so it won't get dark until nearly 8:30, so be sure to get there before then, because setting up shop in the dark sucks.
I'm planning on showing up around 5-6 pm as well, and have no worries about getting a decent camp site. I will say that the festival sold out much earlier this year, and camping is no longer per day, so there should be a much larger crowd Friday than in year's past, so showing up after dark might mean overflow.

it seems from the map that the columbia river is a little over a mile away --- is it accessible from the gorge? what's the terrain like that you'd have to cross? or are you not allowed to head that way?

All of the area surrounding the Gorge is private property, so it would be illegal to attempt to get to the river. It is really far like you said, but not impossible. I wouldn't count on doing it, you'll have enough fun at the campground that hanging out at the river will quickly become a distant memory, especially since it would be a couple hours commute.
As for the terrain, it doesn't look bad. I've seen people out there before, and there are a couple man made trails leading toward the river. The venue is much higher than the river elevation wise, so expect a painful uphill walk on the way back. This is what it looks like:
