If they find alcohol at the gate, they'll take it and pour it out. If they catch you with unauthorized alcohol in the venue, they will throw you out on your ass and you can try again tomorrow.

that's not completely the case. i know the belt sander can happen, but much more often i've seen the beverage enforcement people force people to pour their alcohol out in the venue as well, and then they leave. but ya know, either way, don't get caught

I always leave my tent out cuz I'm not about to set it up and put it away everyday/night. The year of the windstorm some peoples' tents definitely blew away, and the best way around this is to stake them down good. Don't go half-ass with this either. A friend only used 2 stakes that year and spent a few hours looking for her tent. The ground can be really hard out there so a mallet/rock is very handy. You could instead fill it with stuff to weigh it down, but yeah that's just more stuff to steal, and you tent still may shift position.
The other things you leave out are completely up to you. I put my food/beer in the car, along with any expensive camping gear I have. Sometimes camping chairs too, although something I just collapse them and throw them under a car.

Hi! First time caller, long time listener.
So they say that only "small backpacks" are allowed into the venue. What defines a "small backpack"? Like if I have a "regular sized backpack" that is "basically the same size all backpacks are", they're not going to take it away from me, will they? Thanks!

| | First timer question... « Reply #350 on May 28, 2010, 1:19am » | |
This year will be my first time going to Sasquatch. I originally was supposed to go away, so didn't buy my tickets when they were on sale. My plans fell through, so I got two tickets on Craigslist for Monday, which has all the bands I wanted to see the most. I have a couple questions I'm hoping someone could help me answer:
First, since I got the tickets seperately, will my friend and I be able to stay together the whole time? They're both for general admission.
Second, we'll be driving in from Seattle on Monday morning, what is the best time to get there for? I don't want to miss any of the earlier shows. Is there a cheap camping option near the Gorge, or is it all super pricey?
Thanks!!!

All tickets to the Sasquatch are created equal. They're all general admission and there are no assigned seats, so you and your friend can be together the entire weekend. That is, unless one of you some how got your hands on a VIP ticket. It would say something like "VIP" on it. These puppies retailed for $750 each, and even if one of you did have one you'd still be able to hang out in all the normal festival grounds. This is highly unlike I might add.
To answer your second question, considering The Heavy are playing at noon so I suggest arriving no later than 11:45am. Doing so will give you just enough time to run to the main stage and check out their awesomeness. You will not be disappointed. As far as cheap places to camp, I've only ever camped at the Gorge campground located right next to the venue, so I'm not the best person to say. Do some digging in this forum and you'll find others who have shared locations for free camping in the vicinity. They all involve driving to and from though, which is not appealing to me. I recommend just biting the bullet and camping at the Gorge. Who knows, you may be able to sweet talk the ticket-taker and get a reduced fare for only staying one night. Perhaps you've already considered this, but another option is to show up Sunday night. This would take the stress off getting in on time Monday morning.

Well, first off they won't take it away from you. They'll just say you can't come in with it. "Small backpack" is very ambiguous though, you're right. I think what they're getting at are the larger multiple overnight bags that you might take backpacking for a weekend. They must think that is too much stuff for one person to bring in. Just bring a reasonable size backpack in and you'll be fine. I bring a larger than normal daypack in every year, and see others with even bigger bags, and have never encountered a problem with bag size. They're always more preoccupied with what is in your bag than the bag itself.

1st timer here. I'm heading over Monday (and must come back that night, ugh - yes, I will have red bull on board) but am not sure what time I should take off for the Gorge in the a.m. is 8am too late to make it for the noon shows (would allow for 4 hours of travel)? I'll be okay if I miss the first 2 but will freak out if I miss the 3rd (1.55/2pm) sets. Thanks in advance for your help!

I'm going to assume I know what you mean by that, and say yes.
