Hey there!
This will be my first time travelling to Sasquatch. My friends and I are heading down from Calgary and we are all new to this particular festival.
Just wondering what tips people can give us on what to expect, what is important to bring etc.
Also how is the stage setup??? Is there just one main stage or do they set up a couple side stages too???

Hey Fellow Calgarian!
- Some tips:
Go through the Cranbrook boarder crossing, and not the one at Coutts. We did Coutts last year because one in our party was "concerned" about being able to cross the boarder (which turned out to be a non-issue), and Coutts is a lot closer in case we had to turn back. Turns out it added like 6 hours to the trip because the highways across Montana are BRUTAL.
- Pony up for the Premiere camping. It is worth the money.
- Come dressed for the following range in temperatures: -50C to +50C. That is exaggerating a little, but in 2005 people were fainting from heat; 2006 people were soaking because of the rain; Last year on Sunday it was Hot in the morning (so everyone was dressed for Summer) but the afternoon turned violently windy and people everywhere were very, very cold.
- If you do Premiere camping, it is easier to smuggle in your own beer. The one thing I remember them selling are those Mini-kegs of Heineken's, which can be purchased anywhere along the way for 1/4 of what they sell them for at the show. Once you have purchased one, you are free to walk anywhere with it (no Beer gardens), so it is easy to pull one out of your bag and blend in.
- If you get a spot on the rockface (you will know what I am talking about when you see it), lay out some towels and that is your spot for the day!
- The stages are really close together - you can get from one to the next in less than five minutes. There are going to be three stages - Yeti (smallest, crappiest sounding) - Wookie (midsized, pretty good) - and the Main stage (which is amazing, giant screens, beautiful backdrop). There is also going to be a Comedy tent, though not sure where that is going to be).
- On your way back, all the Calgarians stop at the Humptys in Cranbrook. Fun!
- Don't wait until the last day to buy merch.

Yeti is almost solely populated by PNW bands, and usually not bigger ones. Without knowing who's playing this year, a general idea would be Aqueduct, Man Down Medic, Mneomena (can't spell it to save my life), etc. Fall of Troy and Schoolyard Heroes will likely be the big bands you see there this year.

Thanks for the tips quartermass... And yeah, I Dr. Garbanzoured Cranbrook would be a better crossing, mainly because I know the way better through Idaho, having lived in southeastern BC most of my life, haha.

I'll definitely take all that into consideration.
Hopefully we run into our fellow Calgarians down there!!!!
I think I will pay the extra for the premiere camping since thats what I'm being told to do by most people.
They are announcing the acts pretty soon here and I can't wait!!!

Can you clarify why it is easier to smuggle in your own beer because of Premiere camping? Is security more relaxed for the first bus load of campers? I most likely will be doing Premiere camping and sneaking in my own alcohol, but I like having a game plan in place.

I haven't done Premier camping at Sasquatch before, but I did last year for Download festival also at the gorge. We took the shuttle from the campground, and when we went through they didn't even bother to check our bags or anything.

im pretty confused last year... why would you guys wanna do premier camping? last year i did the regular camping and it was the funnest time of my life. you meet so many awesome peolpe because youre surrounded by everyone and all you have to do is bring in your own alcohol in your cars... because they dont check your cars... and plus when you do regular camping, you can team up with whoever youve met around you and share the booze that they have as well AND the weed. its way more awesome.

as far as in the festival goes, is there beer jail or can you walk where ever you want?

hey, everyone. not to sound completely out-of-the-loop, but i am, so i'm going to ask these questions. i've never been to a giant camping festival (i prefer intimate venues), but since i've moved to great falls, mt, i realized that i really won't have many options in terms of bands. so here goes--
1. since we're about eight hours away, can we show up the night before? i read on the camping message board yesterday that you could, but i'm a bit confused. is it free? where would you purchase the additional night? do you have to clear the campground immediately after the final act? and what time was that last year?
2. does anyone have any general camping advice? i tried to get my friends to splurge for the premium, but it was a no-go (we're volunteers with americorps, so i guess i understand). is it just a giant party all day and night?
3. how closely are you inspected when you get into the music area? since there's no re-entry, should we bring packs with food/drink/clothes? is there a place to leave packs without getting them swiped? are the drinks inspected to be ensured they are alcohol free? do people even care that much?
4. do vendors take credit cards?
5. do you have any suggestions of what to bring besides the obvious?
any additional advice would be appreciated as well. i'm very excited, just don't want to go unprepared. thanks!

You can come the night before (Friday night), and pay for the single night at the gate. It isn't free, but will be the same as a regular night. So if you buy the three day pass (all they have for sale), you would come Friday and pay for Friday, and your pass gives you Sat, Sun and Mon nights. The festival will end around Midnight-1am on Monday, and you can sleep there and leave Tuesday in the morning-ish (Anyone know when they kick you out?)

General camping is not as bad as some (me) have made it out to be. Just make sure to bring earplugs and maybe some Tylenol PM to sleep. Party will be insane on the Friday night, but dies out as the days go on. Premiere camping sold out the first day.

Inspections differ by lineup. Someone on this board said to look for the quick moving line with a younger person, as the inspections are less intense. Definitely bring a pack (include at least: a warm sweater for night as it can get fucking cold, rain poncho).
If they see you in the inspection with an "opened" bottle, you will have to pour it out, so I think that is what you mean. Last year I smuggled in tonnes of beer, but your results may vary. It is pretty laid back (people are drinking all day all around the venue), but I've seen people kicked out (mostly for pot infractions), and I've seen a few of the security staff act anything but laid back. So: it depends).
