Can I pick up the microbrewery beer at any location or does it have to be from a specialty beer store? Coming from Canada so if someone can recommend something that would be cool. When I'm in the States I generally buy Rolling Rock since it's not available in Canada! I will still be bringing the old tried and true Alexander Keith's and Big Rock though!

Any grocery store or liquor store in Washington is going to have good microbrews. Look into Dechutes, Rogue, Bridgeport, Full Sail. Those are all readily available in Oregon and Washington, and all are much better than Rolling Rock. Also, many microbrew beers are higher in alcohol content - from 4.5% to 7%, so even if you are paying a little bit more, you probably don't need to drink as many.

Good beers, ftw!

This topic has clearly gone off topic, but since it has changed to a subject that is quite near and dear to my heart, beer and more importantly craft beer, and no one seems to mind I have decided just to add microbrews to the title. I hope you do not mind friendlydestroyer and sorry about the run on sentence.

Here are my thoughts on camping and craft beer:

There is a fairly new movement in the craft beer industry and that is putting tasty beer in cans. There is a number of reasons for this: you can chill it faster than bottles, take it more places (places that ban glass) and it is recyclable everywhere. Plus more compact, especially after it has been drank. My recommendations tend to be on the hoppy side as I am a certifiable hophead: Dale's Pale Ale, Caldera IPA, 21st Amendment Brew Free or Die IPA, but if you like wheat beer (aka hefs and wits) check out 21st Amendment's Watermelon Wheat, better than you might expect. If you are looking for something light, but tasty Anderson Valley's Summer Solstice is tasty, has this graham cracker/creme soda kind of flavor that is also strangely tasty. For a brown/amber ale go Big Sky Moose Drool, it comes in cans now. And if you really want to go a little crazy and you love Imperial Stouts Oskar Blue's Ten Fidy is tasty and like 9.5%. To get ahold of these fine brews check out your nearest store that carries more than just the big microbreweries (Top Foods, QFC, even Albertsons on occasion) this is only if you do not have a beer store like 99 bottles, Bottleworks or Malt and Vine that you can get to with some ease. Beeradvocate.com can help you locate beer stores as well.

Cheers!

Don't tempt me with all of the hop talk. I'm going to have to grab a couple IPA's from the store on the way home now. If I had the money I would be drinking Stones Ruination IPA all weekend at Sasquatch but that shit is damn pricey. I might stop at the Snoqualmie brewery on the way out toward the Gorge, see about picking up some growlers.

For anyone coming from Canada, the best grocery store to get microbrews at is TOP Foods/Kroger. Same company, different name in different areas. They've really stepped up the game in the past few years and have almost the same variety as most specialy beer stores. Still...for nostalgic reasons I'll probably be drinking a shit-ton of Hamm's at the gorge hahaha

Haha what an awesome contribution from the mod.

21st Amendment is right here in San Francisco, one of my favorites. I had a triple IPA there a little while ago that I still dream about.

And Stone is a hell of a brewery, but I couldn't handle their Ruination all weekend long in the sun.

if I thought I would get away with it I'd bring down 12 of my home-made apple cider bottles (7.5%).

but that won't be happening.

Yeah, IPA's all weekend long would not work. You need the lighter stuff for the sunny times - Lagers, Pale Ales, etc. Thats where the Miller Lite cans come in for the win.

Damn, I feel like cracking a Sessions Lager right now, but I would not be very productive the rest of the day.

There's a fairly new brewery in Seattle called Georgetown Brewery that has an unfiltered pale ale called Manny's that has pretty much taken the city by storm. It's seriously one of the tastiest, well-balanced beers I've ever had. Perfect for session drinking. They don't bottle it yet so maybe I'll bring a few growlers to share with you chaps.

I wish I could go through Seattle/area on my way and go to some of their wonderful breweries. Unfortunately the biggest city I'll be going through is Spokane. Hopefully I can find a store with decent brews along the way. No Krogers/Top Foods, from my search though. Apparently this 'world market' place has some variety. Anyone used it before?

Nevermind, a little more digging and I found a real beer store. Anyone coming from Calgary, apparently Hucklberry's Natural Market has the best selection. Can't wait for some delcious PNW microbrews!

Not sure if anyone else spotted this but there were a couple of guys at the campground selling some microbrews out of a cooler last year. Can't remember what exactly they were, a friend and I picked up a couple on the way to the store at the campground to pick up ice before the concert one morning. As I recall they were pretty decently priced and very delicious. May not help anyone but made me think I might splurge for some nice beer this year too.

Google map it! I don't know Spokane at all, but seems pretty easy off the highway.
