 Cameras!!
« Thread Started on Apr 20, 2009, 9:33pm »

What's the word on bringing cameras into the venue? I know the site says that no professional cameras are allowed, but is that really enforced? Where do they draw the line? My girlfriend has a Nikon D300 SLR.

Basically we need to get this shit into the festival, or we will die.

i think the general rule is nothing with a detachable lens. That rules out an SLR but a little creative bag packing can easily solve that problem. Also, when you are waiting to get in, choose the fastest line, that means they arent searching that hard.

Bummer on the interchangeable lens. I want to bring my DSLR as well. How would suggest, um, "hiding" it?

Last year I had a little trouble getting my D80 in on the last day but managed to convince the guy it wasn't a pro camera. I would suggest putting a small lens (I'll have my 50mm) on it when entering and keeping your other lenses spread out in other bags, etc. But it sounds like they're cracking down on a lot of different things this year (4 people/car, etc.) that I wouldn't be surprised if they are sticky about cameras.

If someone gets caught with a DSLR, they have to walk back to the campsite to drop it off?

from my understanding you get a warning to put it away and if you get caught again they kick you out. you can't take it back to the campground unless you want to miss the rest of that day, since there's no re-entry allowed.

I'm just curious. Why don't "they" want nice/semi-professional cameras at these events? They don't want anyone else taking nice pictures? Do they sell postcards at these music festivals or something?

If it's a safety issue, organizers, please note - I'm not going to chuck my DSLR lens at anyone. I'd chuck a $12 beer before I chuck my hundred dollar lens on stage. Are they afraid we're gonna sue if the camera gets damaged or stolen?

What is it? I don't understand what's behind the rule.

I have nothing to add other than there was a camera thread last year, and there was a lot of discussion that I cannot comprehend. Try the search engine, and you might find a decent answer.
