 Camping Friday night?
« Thread Started on Feb 18, 2009, 10:14pm »

I was just looking over the camping part of the official website and it appears that they are now including Friday night in the total weekend cost. That is awesome!! I can't remember what I paid per night last year, anyone remember what they cost?

yeah you can show up at the on-site campground at noon on friday, which is a huge improvement over last year where thousands of people showed up in the middle of the night and tried to secure a spot. i don't think there are any single day passes this year, only 4 night passes. from what i recall the prices are nearly the same as last year, i think the general campground is a little more expensive though. if you enjoy saving money like i do, reserve a spot at wildhorse campground, it's $90 for 4 days with NO ticketmaster fees and is as good as the premium sites at the gorge itself. there's a free shuttle to and from the gates, hot showers and a cafe with really good food.

Last year it was $40 per night per vehicle at the regular campground. If you purchased the nights individually, you could leave early and get your money back for each night you were not staying. You could also pay for three nights of camping for $100 (saving $20), but there was no chance of a rebate leaving early. Friday camping last year was not sold on-line, so you paid $40 upon arrival.

So, we paid $140 for four nights camping, which including the $20 discount since we were not going to leave early. $95 for the same four nights is pretty darn cool. The ticketmaster fees for camping last year was $3.50.

I would have to disagree about the thousands showing up in the middle of the night. If they did, they did it by choice, to save the $40 Friday camping fee. We showed up around 7pm Friday night, and the first 8 rows were already filled. I think those who showed up Saturday were already camping in overflow.

I hear the shower and bathroom situation at Wildhorse compares to Premium camping, and it is cheaper, but you can't walk there, and the loud parties do not extend to the late night. Part of the fun of the Sasquatch is the main campground. Plus you can see the venue, the river, and hear the music from the main campground.

I found it interesting that they list the camping as a max of 4 per vehicle on the Sasquatch site. I wonder what happens when a vehicle filled with 5 shows up? Do they charge an extra $95? It is a bit hard to hide people in cars unless you have an RV.

the official website says for camping there are no refunds for early departure this year, but friday is included in the price and you get to show up at noon. last time 2am saturday was when they stated people could show up and not have to pay for friday camping, which is why so many people showed up then. it was a complete disaster as thousands tried to get around in complete darkness to set up camp without anyone directing traffic. apparently they learned from that mistake. wildhorse is approximately 1.4 miles from the gorge campground, so it isn't completely out of walking range if you're nuts and want to stick around for the general campground parties. what i'm not aware of is if you'd be allowed back into wildhorse if you're not a part of the shuttle.

More power to you if you showed up at 2am to avoid the extra $40 camping cost. I disagree that there were thousands who chose this route, and I don't know why they would. Showing up Friday night, getting a better camping spot, and paying a couple bucks more seems like a no brainer to me. But I'm not trying to be mean, if you were on that tight of a budget, that's fine. Sounds like this isn't an option this year anyway.

So I'm assuming there is no set times of checking in besides being after noon on Friday? I ask this because I will be going to a concert on Friday night in Seattle and driving to the Gorge that night afterwards.
