Have read about valuables being stolen at Sasquatch. If you lock your passport in your car, is that good enough? Do cars get broken into there?

I have yet to hear of anything actually getting stolen from a locked car. Most of the thefts occur during the daytime/evening while people are in the concert and happen when you leave your valuables (read: alcohol, highdroogz, electronics, giant mustaches taped to the front of your car) out in the open or in your tent.

I think I once heard of a car getting broken into, but it pretty much never happens. If your car has a locking glove box that would be a good place for passports, that's where I put mine.

I support this thread because common sense is completely thrown out the window when people attend the Sasquatch campground. IF YOU DON'T WANT SOMETHING STOLEN, KEEP IT LOCKED IN YOUR CAR OUT OF VIEW FROM ANYONE PASSING BY WHO MIGHT WANT TO BREAK INTO YOUR CAR TO STEAL WHAT THEY CAN ALREADY SEE.
Jesus, you deserve to get your shit stolen if you can't abide.

You should be good just locking it in your car. Maybe put it under your seat or in your spare tire thing in the trunk or something if you are super concerned. I doubt that most people that would go to the trouble of actually breaking into a car are looking for passports.

I actually over heard the group camped next to me talk about how they were in the campsite especially to steal passports. They mentioned that they knew of all the possible hiding spots a passport could be and had practiced diligently for the last 6 months on how to break into a car in under 30 seconds. They also said their number one rule was, "don't panic". If someone suspects you are breaking into a car they said to just act cool like it is actually your car and that you lost the keys last night in the stage grounds, tell the nosy stranger that you have already called a locksmith but you are trying to get in yourself to save the $100+ fee. They are master pros. Basically, there is no safe spot for your passport.
If you are coming into the United States from another country just accept the fact that you will need to make arrangements to get a new passport after the fest. You will also want to make arrangements to take your car to a mechanic and have it thoroughly searched as it is very common for assholes to target out of country plates and hide drugs in the vehicle in spots you would never even think of looking. This will cause you massive headaches crossing back into Canada, this may cause you jail time too.
Face it, it is a dangerous world out there. Making it through the festival without being murdered for your beer money should actually be your primary concern. Godspeed, everyone.

Ha ha. Thanks Fox, you're too kind.
I just think it's funny that someone started a thread wondering if they should protect their valuables. The solution is in the goddamn title, "Protect". Sorry to be rude musicologist and I really hope you do join the board, but based on the need to wonder this question I fear everything you bring to Sasquatch (including yourself) is at terrible risk of being robbed and stolen. Duct Tape everything to your body.

Someone in our group couldn't find their passport last year and it was such an awful feeling. After a couple hours looking for it we were facing the prospect of having to drive to the god damn embassy in Seattle and back because she wouldn't be able to get across the border. Ugh, I was sofa king pissed.
Three hours later while this girl is sitting there balling and I want to murder someone, our amazing neighbours come back from the festival and said "oh hey, one of you guys left a backpack sitting out so we threw it in our car".
Protect your valuables folks.
