I'm baffled and amused by alex's defensiveness. I don't think anyone is taking anything the wrong way; it would be a strange thing for people to take speculation about the varying costs of music festival tickets the wrong way.

The only thing that's actually going on in this thread is that we're teasing Gunther about repeating his assurance that they wouldn't shorten the festival without dropping the price.

Alex I wasnt arguing with you, I was just making a general statement. Your post just seemed like the most reasonable one to quote to make that statement. I know you werent saying that if they got more money and less days the fest would have Zeppelin or something.

I was trying to say that if the cost remains high and they drop a day, dont expect a massive lineup just because they have more money to throw around. I know you got that point, I just felt like restating.

So the real question is, how can they make the most money. If they made more money last year than previous years, I would expect the same (4 days ~$300 tickets). However, if the extra day of staff and paying for the Foo Dr. Garbanzohters caused it to be less profitable, they might go back to 3 days (we have already speculated on what would happen to ticket prices).

It does seem like they are pretty confident in a sell out though, because they didnt offer earlybird tickets this year. From what I understand, the point of earlybird tickets is to get people onboard so they will convince their friends to go, and to give people buying pre-lineup a bit of incentive to commit early.

I still think a sellout is all but guarenteed baring a really shit lineup because almost everyone I talk to plans to come back. Every year we have had neighbours on at least one side who are first timers and the next year without fail we have a beer with all of them. The number of people I know who go has gone from about 10 in 2009 to about 30 this year.

The only reasons I can see for people not coming back are major life change (move, have kid), financial situation changes (lose job, go back to school), major conflict (sorry pea) or didnt have a good time last year. That might make up for 15-25% of the attendance this year.

OK thats about all the specualtion and made up numbers I can manage for today.

I originally assumed that Know had some sort of issue with me. Mostly because of a few posts over the last little while where he has seemed extra pissy. I just misinterpreted your posts. Thought you were poking fun at me.

I'm just trying to welcome amygardner777 to board. Why must you always bury my attempts to be thoughtful by turning every thread into every thread is every thread?

I think maybe you should ask amygardner777 when "early bird" tickets usually go on sale. She obviously knows more about this than you do.

If I remember correctly didn't the Foo Dr. Garbanzohter/extra day announcement come about the same time as presale? Do they usually leak a headliner that early? Maybe it was just anniversary extra day hype. I think the Pavement announcement was also pretty early.

A ha ha ha me too! I was like, what was that about? But then I started thinking, Alex is just getting to that point where he's "One Of Us" and so he's kind of jumpy at anything that sounds like criticism.

Love ya Alex! You have my vote for the boarder who has come the farthest in the last calendar year.

Thanks guys. I'll try to be less of a spaz in the future.

And yeah Pavement was announced approximately 3 years before everybody else on the 2010 lineup.

They've announced one headliner with the pre-sale for the last two years. I would expect them to do that again.
