That would be a sound argument if there hadn't been vast stretches of time on Friday when there were no bands playing. If Friday had had a full lineup (or hell, even a 3/4 lineup) I don't think as many people would have problems with that decision.

I am all for a four day festival, but not if the additional day is going to be as ragtag as it was in 2011.

Yes. The day didn't start until like 5 and it was not full by any means.

Last year they made a big deal out of the fourth day being special because of the ten year anniversary, so I dont think they'll keep it this year. But I don't think they're gonna want to drop the price back down.

With Coachella being two weekends this year though they're going to have to do something to compete, especially if they do go back to 3 days. I see them either 1) dropping the price down by like $20 so they're cheaper than Coachella but making camping separate again or 2) leaving the price and making the claim that camping's included now so it's a better value.

No matter what, I Dr. Garbanzoure it's gonna cost me roughly the same as last year.

Second time now (or third?), they are not eliminating a day without dropping the price. No one will go.

I don't know if anyone has thought of this yet, but worst case scenario would be that they would go back to a three-day festival but keep the price exactly as it was last year.

I'd like to say "We'll see" but we won't, because they're not going to eliminate a day OR drop the price. If they do either, I'll buy you a beer to make amends for whatever I did to offend you.

We cool?

Imagine the lineup they could afford with a few mill extra and 1 less day of expenses. Shit.

One less day of expenses = one less day of revenue.

Hmm... Crazy thought: what if they dropped the fourth day but didn't change the ticket prices from 2011?

HONESTLY I THINK IT IS MORE LIKELY THAT THEY WILL MAINTAIN THE TICKET PRICES BUT DO AWAY WITH LOUD FRIDAY

I was just imagining the scenario of a 2 day show that cost $100 more than 2011. More money from ticket sales and virtually no overhead. They'd lose out on food and alcohol revenue though, you're right

Friday exists to sell more food and beer. It all exists to sell food and beer.

They will basically spend as little money as they can to sell the thing out regardless.

It's a business. You dont spend a certain % of your revenue making things better if you dont have to. Rest assured, if they could sell out at $500 with a lineup headlined by a band that works for beer, they would.

Luckily last year just bearly sold out as their ploy to put tickets on stubhub for assloads of money failed miserably, so they will still have to make some sort of effort to make the lineup desirable.

I'm just going to start agreeing with everything everybody says because everything I say seems to be taken the wrong way.

Yes, people will be pissed off IF the festival goes from 4 days to 3 days with no drop in price, but as was just pointed out, Live Nation is in it to make money. IF they can sell the tickets for the 2011 price while producing a 2010 lineup, they will. It really doesn't matter to them if some people are pissed off. Those people are no longer their concern as long as there are other people to take their place (i.e. buy the tickets).

I'm not saying they will change the schedule.
I'm not saying they will or will not adjust the price.
I'm not saying they would blow their wad on bands just because the money is there.
I'm not saying they wouldn't blow their wad on bands just because the money is there.
I'm saying they COULD do all of those things, and they COULD reasonably justify any of those actions while not alienating such a large number of fans that they would jeopardize their business.

Clear enough?
