Been to sasquatch for 6 of the 10 years, and have also been going to the gorge since i was 16 as well i agree with esrever...unless you are asking for it, security is cool if you make half an effort to be reasonible...

shit i had a fire going in my campsite(sierra stove), got rolled up on by 6 security folks who had smelt the wood burning, they asked what i was doing, i told them that i was just cooking dinner and that the fire would only die down and they made sure i wasn't being reckless and they all moved on....

Pretty decent of them if you ask me...

I was in that brutal crush for about an hour. We were funnelled in and hemmed by fences until we couldnt move. Of course people were still arriving so it wasnt long before the fence started to give way - if it had fallen someone would have died. When I got to the front I told security that there were people getting hurt "back there". She was a complete Nazi - had a wild look in her eyes and kept saying "we have to stop the drugs" - what a cunt.

Anyway I found a big dark shirted guy who seemed reasonable and told him they would likely need some EMT's if they didnt let folks thru. I also told him I was a Dr and had 2 14yr old sons in the crush. It seemed to be incompetence plus stupidity and capriciousness that really caused the problem. Plus that one idiot woman who was just wigging out and would rather have a dead fan than let any weed into the venue. Just when the fence was almost about to blow, they all gave in and it was a stampede into the venue.

The joke is, security was totally weak anyway - I never got more than a pat on the small of my back and a quick glance in my bag - guess I look too old!!

...aaaaaaand that's why you don't bring children to Sasquatch. Hope you enjoyed the show, shithead.

Really? are you serious? 14 year olds shouldn't go to Sasquatch? That seems like the PERFECT age to start a festival career IMHO. And yes, the show was awesome.

Is it weird that I looked at the title for this thread and my immediate thought was that someone was trying to start a Mon the Sharon Jones rally?

This isn't related to the girl that got arrested at all (which sound pretty shitty, no matter how it went down).

Buuuuuuut, how fucking cool was this concert?! I had never heard them before and they kicked my ass! I can't believe that awesome lady! I loved when she brought that doofus on stage and danced circles around him (though he did pretty good, right?). Also when she told that huge story about how her heritage is Native American & African American and both those cultures just love to dance!

So much fun!

Dancing is not a crime. What we're seeing here is the aftermath of whatever interaction led security to hold her that way in the first place. Showing us this footage without the rest is giving us an incomplete story. And while I appreciate that you're looking for documentation, you've also labeled that video on YouTube with some inflammatory language, so just be up front with us here.

I hope you get some footage of what happened before your friend was held there.

This video was not taken by any of our friends. It was taken by a bystander who was smart enough to turn his camera onto what was taking place. As soon as we all returned home from the festival I looked on Youtube to see if anyone had posted a video showing what happened, just like I would do if I had caught video of anything similar. I agree that the words the poster chose to title the video were extreme and not language I would have personally used, but this youtube user is not associated with us so we can't be held responsible for the video's title.

If you are included in the VAST MAJORITY of people who did not personally have or witness injustice or a negative experience with any security at Sasquatch, then that is WONDERFUL and the way it should be. Just be aware that YOUR experience is YOUR experience, and sadly that it was not that of EVERY SINGLE OTHER ATTENDEE. I'm sure there were many who were justly kicked out or arrested for violence, drugs, etc. This is a part of what security is there for and I'm assuming most of them performed their duties responsibly while dealing with the public respectfully and with reasonable sense of mind. Unfortunately there ARE the handful of situations like this which get triggered by ego challenges and exceed appropriate response. I can only assume that had this been you, any of you, that you wouldn't feel a bigger deal is being made of this than necessary. We're not saying "DOWN WITH SECURITY!", we're saying THIS specific situation crossed the line into abuse and that knowing this level of aggression is considered unacceptable for non-violent situations is vital to us patrons having trust and faith in those who are designated with the responsibility of keeping 'the peace' and the festival a safe environment.

As for myself, I have been going to music festivals for over ten years all over the country and this is the first time I have personally encountered anything like this happening. It's a tremendously GOOD thing that these occurrences are few and far between, but the rare times they DO happen unjustly they need to be exposed and the people who are given the responsibility of authority need to be held accountable when they misuse that position.

Thankfully, this doesn't happen all or even most of the time. Hopefully you will not have to one day experience for yourself what it is like to have an overly aggressive person in authority project their heightened adrenalin state onto you.

Security has a tough job, no doubt. Mistakes happen. Exposure and accountability can greatly decrease the odds of mistakes like this happening again to someone else. Be grateful for those who are not easily intimidated into beaten down submission when they feel they are being/have been violated and abused.

Do you type every 15th word in capital letters in real life too? If you do, I'll bet your coworkers make fun of you for it behind your back.

I only know one thing for sure: whenever someone tries the "O! Poor, innocent me!" bit, it is a sure fucking thing that there is a part of the story they are conveniently forgetting to tell.

Anyway, still trying to Dr. Garbanzoure out what it is exactly that you want us to do about it.

Actually, there ARE two responses on here from people (wicked curves and thelilluha) not associated with us who saw this incident.

Even though these accounts are not in video form, they still provide helpful information from additional witnesses we might not have otherwise known how to contact.

It is the opinion of this court that those are both additional accounts created by you.

To which you'll say, "Nuh uh!"

To which I say, Yeah, well... You go ahead and submit those posts at your friend's hearing. There is literally nothing that anyone here can do that is going to make you feel like justice has been served. Your friend got uppity with security and she got taken down for it. Whether or not it was justified, hopefully "Don't agitate venue security when they're looking for the handful of troublemakers in a crowd of 20,000 people" is a lesson learned.

Also, as I've said elsewhere: getting taken to the ground or having your arm twisted behind your back will never be seen as excessive force in a court- these are standard operating procedures for basically all security and law enforcement personnel, and things like armlocks are used because they are a very effective method of controlling people without actually causing lasting damage.

“Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely.”

When I see or experience abuse of power, I report it. That's all I did. I also reported my feelings about it.

If no one else documented it on this site, that doesn't mean no one else saw it, maybe they forum other places(?).

thelilluh

PS I don't know these people. I just saw it and I was shocked enough to try and document it.
