 Avoiding Goldendale
« Thread Started on May 25, 2011, 4:23pm »

So i'm coming up from Corvallis Oregon, and I saw somewhere that if you go through Goldendale the cops know whats up and they stop and try to search your car, is this true? and if not can Oregon peeps advise me on the best route to take?

I don't know about that but I would recommend washing your car and following the speed limit religiously on your way up.

Know your rights and exercise them.

Ensure all your headlights, tail lights and turn signals are in working order
If Pulled over, be respectful, courteous, and compliant with the officer
DO NOT give your consent to search the vehicle
DO NOT have any contraband in plain sight, in fact,
Keep all Contraband in a LOCKED glove compartment or trunk (a warrant is required to search Locked areas of your car)

Just be smart. as long as you're not drinking or blowing trees in the cop's face you'll be OK.

Excellent post

A+

This obviously does not apply if you are crossing the border however....

It's amazing how many Canadians mosey through the venue looking for "stuff". I don't know how many times I have been asked in past years if I had anything extra to sell because of the whole border situation.

Like, I know it's a bitch that you have to cross the border and that only a fool would bring drugs across. But that doesn't make it the responsibility of every single person you see having a good time on drugs to hook you up at the festival. Frankly I resent being asked. I don't know you, I didn't bring shit to share with you. I'm not a drug dealer. You're just going to have to do a little extra legwork. It's, like, not my problem. Dude.

Whats even more fascinating is the amount of them that wait until inside the venue to start looking/asking. I mean, I think it would make way more sense to search in the campgrounds, rather than inside personally. Plus safer and more discrete.

First evening we divide and conquer until someone finds a hookup. Guys cruising through the campsite with a backpack in tow are usually a good place to start. Always makes me a little paranoid though, as I would hate to have trouble with the law south of the border. Up here it's a stern talking to and you're on your way.

Ya, it's always a risk searching in the campground or the venue.

More than that, it's a risk eating shit that you actually end up finding in the campground or venue. I say it often but I'll say it again now (say it with me, kids): NEVER TAKE MORE THAN YOU CAN HANDLE, AND ALWAYS KNOW YOUR DEALER. I'd rather be stone sober at Sasquatch than take something that some guy told me is molly.

HYDRATE.

OR.

DIE.

It's not a joke. Take care of yourself. It's difficult to drink too much water, but it is very very easy to drink too little. Every year we see some kid go white as a fuckin sheet and hit the ground, and then get dragged out of the venue unconscious. Your body dehydrates very quickly when you are rolling (not pulling any punches here, I know that's the chemical of choice these days). Your body dehydrates even faster when you are dancing your ass-pants off in a desert climate and drinking lots of alcohol.

No dead flies at Squatch '11. Feed and water the machine appropriately.

Goldendale is a long way from the Gorge. I've driven through there the last six years on the way to Sasquatch. The only time I had to stop was for Chicken McNuggets.
