Because correcting people on points of grammar in real life always makes you look like an asshole, and often encourages them to continue making the error to spite you.

I guess my view is that you are not an asshole for letting someone know they are making a mistake. I would be grateful, if slightly embarrassed that I was wrong in the first place.

I guess you would be the exception to the rule that most people dont like it when you correct their grammar. I generally feel like a douche for correcting people but sometimes I cant resist it.
In an email I got last week a friend confused 'are' and 'our', and he has spoken english his entire life. I couldnt let that slide, even though I felt like an ass.

I go off the basic assumption that people don't usually like to be wrong. But I guess it would be more accurate to say people would rather be wrong than have someone correct them.

Yeah personally I dont really mind either, but i generally dont bother because correcting someone on something like that is usually met with a sarcastic "soooooorrrrrryyyyyy".
