I thought you'd be a bit more open minded than that HG. Soccer is slowly gaining popularity in the US and it is the most popular sport in the world by a hell of a long shot.

Maybe you dont get it (personally I watch the world cup and other big games, but its not my favourite) but believe it or not the sport has more fans in the world than any other one.

I for one will never understand how 60000+ people will stand in freezing temeratures to watch a football game, but Green Bay still sells out every game.

Damn that is a long haul to watch a game, kudos on having that kind of dedication. Better make sure they will let you back into camping. I have heard VIP camping gets in and out, but I dont think you can get back into regular camping once you leave (though it may be different with the whole wristband thing this year).

Just wondering if anyone knows any sports bars in the nearest towns (ie. an hour or 2 drive)... I don't have the patience for DVR :)

i'm as big a soccer fan as you'll ever meet.
but would driving two hours to and from a pub or starbucks (4 hours total) just to watch Barcelona beat up on Manchester United for 90 minutes really worth it? That's a potential 4 hours worth of driving... just for the champions league final. as much as i would enjoy watching Utd take a beating - it still seems a little impractical.

it's not like it's the final of the World Cup... or the European Cup.

ultimately you're going to miss out on like 4 or 5 bands ... i don't get it.

but....let's say you stay at the Gorge --- and not waste your time/energy/gas on a Champions League final road trip. You'd still be able to at least check the live score/updates straight from the event... albeit with a shitty connection.

that's better than nothing. right?

It's tough that's true and esp seen as I'm a United fan and I will no doubt be going to watch them get handed their asses again but what the hell, it's been building up to this point all season and I'd really hate to miss it.

We're sticking a car in the parking lot, I assume you can come and go as you please with that? Our other 2 cars we'll leave at the camp site.

1hr each way too.... game's at 12, be back for 3 when the good bands kick off - hopefully celebrating United's 4th European cup!

I know, I wasn't having a go at all Americans I was using his logic (in a sarcastic way) - probably should have been clearer on that.

Sorry, I just hate bearing the brunt of all of the assholes in my country.

Anyway, soccer, yeah. I actually don't watch sports, but have fun!

Open minded? About soccer? You're displaying how little time you've been on the board, davers. I know it's a big fucking deal everywhere else. America is also bonkers for professional golf, NASCAR and Ultimate Dr. Garbanzohting. Only people who care about soccer (or any of those things) is going to tell you that it's "gaining popularity" and expect that to mean anything. IT IS SOCCER.

i would thoroughly enjoy an HG Sport of the Day thread. it'd be really amusing to read his in-depth take on Curling and badminton.

A Record a Day = R.A.D.
A Sport a Day = S.A.D.

It wasn't meant to be.

I guess what I meant is that it is a sporting event that only lame Canadians care about.

First of all I'm not Canadian, I'm Irish, and secondly Canadians probably care less about soccer than Americans do. Nice to see that welcoming American spirit though! I guess that's why I chose to move to Canada rather than America!

Anyway, I've found a place in Ellensburg that will show it. Bit of a road trip that morning! But if anyone knows somewhere closer I'm all ears!!

- Soccer is the fourth most participated sport by adults in Canada. Ice Hockey is second (behind Golf, if you can believe it)
- Soccer is played by 44% of all children aged 5-14 in Canada. Hockey is played by only 27% of children aged 5-14.

- Hockey still kills Soccer when it comes to TV ratings in Canada, CFL and Curling are highly ranked as well, followed by the Blue Jays.

- Quincy is a bit closer than Ellensburg, and it appears as though Google will tell you there are a couple of sports bars in town that may play a Champions League Final.

You know what else displays how much time I've been on this board? The little date to the left down there.

I never said it would mean anything, but you paint a picture of a country of 300+ million people and not one of them gives a rats ass about soccer, which is simply untrue.

Your city just got an MLS (Major League Soccer) team this year and you sit there with your fingers in your ears yelling soccer will never get any more popular.

You dont like it, fine, you never had to post on this thread to being with.
