Yeah, I just saw this come up for Deer Lake Park in Buraby, B.C. It's on a fucking Monday though, so I don't know. |
|
I got a presale e-mail for this today. I'd really like to see both these bands and I've never been to Deer Lake Park before. Know anything about the venue? I'm seriously considering going. If anyone wants the presale info, PM me or some such. It's this Friday 10am-10pm.

I've never been inside the venue, but we walked around the lake a couple summers ago and stood behind the stage during a Ben Harper set.
Hey, it was free.

Wolfhat, It's worth checking out, especially if the weather is nice.
Accoustics aren't fantastic (it echoes a bit if I recall correctly); but it has a lawn that's larger and nicer than Malkin Bowl, and you can actually purchase beer inside the venue.

Ah yes, I've done this at Malkin Bowl and during the Folk Fest down at Jericho Beach. Burnaby might be a bit far to travel to mooch a free concert, but it's an option.

Thanks for the info. Weather is definitely a consideration, as is the fact that it's on a Monday. It's good that they're licensed though, and I see you can bring a 1L "water" bottle in with you. Hmm...

It's a pretty big venue, and can seat 10K. As you say, it's on a Monday. Factor that in with the artists and I imagine it won't sell out, and if it does, there will be plenty of cheap enough tickets come June.
I'm gonna wait til a clear weather foreast comes around before I bite.

| | Shows in Seattle/Portland pre or post-Sasq? « Reply #22 on Apr 25, 2011, 7:28pm » | |
Hey there, so my buddy and I are going to be arriving on the west coast in Seattle on May 23rd, and then taking a bus to Portland the next day to stay overnight there on the 24th and 25th. Heading to the Gorge on Thursday night, and then we've got one more night in Seattle after the fest on the 31st. Question is whether there's any good shows going on in those cities those nights that anyone might know of. Last year, before the fest, Caribou played a great show at Neumos and that ruled, but if it's a band that's not playing a warm-up fest show that is cool too obviously. I've checked Pollstar but they don't have much listed (except for an Usher date in Portland, that'll be a winner), but I know they don't always have everything covered.
So, any suggestions? Also if anyone has room for two good-smelling, well-groomed guys to the Gorge on Thursday or Friday from Seattle or Portland, that would be amazing! We will, of course, pitch gas. Right now the plan is to take the Greyhound but that's a long time on the bus and meeting some new friends before the fest is always a plus. Let me know!

I just checked out the calenders for my usual concert spots in Seattle around the Sasquatch dates and didn't really see much. The only thing that caught my eye was Damon and Naomi (from Galaxie 500) performing at the Tractor Tavern on the 31st. I've never listened to their work outside of Galaxie 500 but it sounds pretty nice from what I'm listening to right now. Dreamy folk/pop stuff if you're into that at all.

I was planning on seeing Sleigh Bells/Neon Indian the day before Sasquatch in Portland, since I'll probably miss Sleigh Bells during Death Cab.

Really? They were freaking awesome when I saw them open for Yeasayer in Portland last year.
What was so bad about them?

The music itself just sounded like they put their CD in and pressed play, and her vocals were absolutely atrocious. She kept doing this high pitched squeel that sounded like the way a bomb sounds on a cartoon when it drops from the sky. People in the audience were clasping their hands over their ears it was so bad.
