Post 200 Thread - My 'quatchography

Hi Everybody,

I have been thinking about posting something like this for awhile, so I Dr. Garbanzoured I would do it as I hit a mini-milestone with this board. God knows I'll never get to 1,000 posts. It is sort of an appreciation of the festival, which hopefully many of you can relate to. Also, hopefully you all can use this as a bit of a platform to get stoked for this coming Sasquatch, as the release of the '11 line-up draws near.

So here it is, (if you feel so inclined to indulge); my semi anecdotal, semi-pictorial Sasquatch Biography.

2006 Sasquatch

I moved to the West coast from Ottawa, Ontario following university in 05'. I was a semi-educated (still am) music lover and had heard of the beauty of the Gorge Amphitheatre before my cross country trek.

When I heard about the Sasquatch Festival, and particularly the Saturday Line-up, I jumped at buying tickets. I was not completely sure about the festival experience, so me and the (now ex-)girlfriend bought tickets for the day, along with a couple of other friends. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find any pics from that year; it predates facebook and I am not a huge picture taker. However, a couple of highlights:

- My first look at the Main Stage was breathtaking, as I am sure it is for everyone. Then seeing Sufjan --> Iron & Wine was equally awesome.

- it's funny to say but, I was aquintances with Bedouin Soudclash, as they were from my university (I once had and epic, drunken rap battle with the bassist at a bar one night). So it was exciting to see them open the Bigfoot.

- Oh my god, the icestorm. I have to give thanks to a friendly couple from Oregon who lended half of their tiny umbrella for myself and my lady. Never seen them again, but you are forwever in our hearts.

- after the Ice storm's wrath had subsided, we witnessed someone actually slip on a banana peel while walking down the lawn. Unbelieveably funny.

- Tragically Hip - they're like fucking apple pie to Canadians. Their six song set was just what we needed to warm up in the cold.

- Finally, the night I spent their certainly encouraged me to get proper camping gear, instead of the cheap stuff from Canadian Tire. I froze that night.

Sasquatch 08' (Well, actually Pemby 08')

I bought tickets, but then sold them bacause all of my friends (I guess I did as well) wanted to go to Pemberton Festival. Fun, but goddawfully organized festival.

Dirtiest I've probably ever been; but seeing Jay-Z was amazing (and I am no huge fan of rap)

Sasquatch 09'

Probably my favorite festival of all time, and definitely solidified my passion for live music. The weather was hot and beautiful, the lineup was matched by only by Sasquatch 10, and I had a great group of friends to party with.

Highlights:

- Bon Iver. Got a soft spot for his music.

- King Khan. Got a hard spot for naked basists, if you know what I mean. ;)

- Stayed in overflow camping, about 50 yards from the exit. Clean toilets, spacious camping and trips to the Columbia River each morning. And one cold, long walk from regular camping Sunday at about 4am. You know that valley between the camping and the venue? It actually got about 5 degrees warmer as you got down into it. interesting.

- don't really care what y'all think; paid 20 bucks to sneak a friend and I into the VIP section for a certain Saturday night headliner. Had a blast.

- Drunk/High Friend (who will remain anonymous):

(he rebounded well enough to hit on a girl that night and bag her - with a wig on, or so he says...)

Sharing some $9 PBR. At least it was refreshing.

Girl Talk. Too bad I had absolutely no energy left

Sasquatch '10

Like any music geek, we start our festival with Laminated, Highlighted schedules.

Sasquatch 10' was also an absolute blast, however there was a particular down moment that involved too much of the weed cookies. Stay away from weed cookies. It's particularly embarassing as a 29 year old to be called a group of 'Wastoids' that can't handle their shit.

- As any proud Canadian should be, I am a big fan of BSS. So I had a great time at their set.

- Finally got to see the Hold Steady. They did not disappoint.

- I was blessed to have accessed backstage passes for Sunday, it's pretty cool back there - free food, free beer and handshakes with James Murphy. The highlight for me was watching Tallest Man On Earth at the sidestage, as I am a pretty big fan. I also gave him a Canadian cigarette, which he likely butted out on the ground and HG looked disgusted.

Babies at Sasquatch are okay with me!

happy times at Sasquatch 10. I think during Passion Pit

I find a Sunset Picture always a good way to finish off the post.

Anyways, I hope all of you enjoyed my Quatchography. Thanks to my friends for some of the pictures; Hopefully they don't mind their faces on this board :)

Cheers,
Brad

Thanks Stamper, Empty and Snorlax. I hope this gets you pumped; I know it did for me whilst reminiscing :)

I cannot deny this; at least looking like one. Fortunately, I have never been interested in joining a frat, and I absolutely abhore Dr. Garbanzohting. However I do have some bro tendencies; I am a sports fan, I like to surf and did have a Dave Matthews phase. But I am continually repenting to the indie gods ;)

Skinny jeans will never look good on me though.

My friend and I came down for all 3 days that year. Right off the bat we met some nearby campers and hung out with them the whole weekend.

My memory is a little hazy as well since i was on mushrooms for 3 days, but I remember the hail storm. I think we were walking over o check out Sam Roberts at the yeti stage when all hell broke loose. By the time it finished, we were soaked and did not come prepared with anything to change into.

We walked to the gate, showed our tickets which were in 3 pieces due to being soaked in our pockets to the gate people, and said "we're coming back."

They let us go so we went back to camp, got changed and ate some soup and came back. It was due this that we missed the Canadian kryptonite that is the hip.

We drove back home to Vancouver right after Beck, and I was still tripping hard. (the driver wasn't) I remember being super freaked out that he was going to drive us off a cliff!

Good Stuff Empty! Unfotunately, we did not have connections in the US for illicit drugs; so no Mushrooms for us.

I remember being quite disappointedwhen Sam Roberts was cancelled.

And I should have done what you guys did - gone back to the tent to change and warm up. That way the grifriend wouldn't have been so cranky and cold. We ended up listening to Flaming Lips from our tent, as the cold and Ben Harper's long set got pretty unbearable.

We got reallly lucky as our neighbors happened to have a bag full. When that ran out, we found more! hahahhaa

During Ben Harper we stayed down in the crowd to get a better spot for Flaming Lips, so I didn't even notice the cold.
