Jumping ship, from Coachella to Sasquatch « Thread Started on Jan 21, 2011, 11:32pm »
I have been a devout Coachella attendee for many years. However things have changed. Coachella looks on track to be a even bigger over crowded affair than last year. All camping is sold out.... in less than 6 hours.
It is because of this and the overall decline in quality of the fest (lineup and vibe) that I'm giving my money to Sasquatch this year. Hence the new account. So am wondering, are there any fellow defectors on here and what are your opinions on this matter. I'm really looking forward to the transition though. The Gorge looks fucking AMAZING!
Plus, 4 days > 3 days
(although, Coachella has got some STELLAR edm acts this year... especially on sunday)

Welcome to the board dude! I've been a Sasquatch attendee for 3 years now and it only seems to get better and better (in my most humble opinion). As you read in the Coachella page this will be my first year attending that festival so I look forward to having a first person comparison of the two. Sasquatch seems to slowly be jumping on the EDM bandwagon, so I'm hoping there will be even more options this year. Last year they upgraded to a larger dance tent and even added late night EDM performances (deadmau5 and Booka Shade). Since you seem to be a seasoned festival guy I'm sure you will fall in love with Sasquatch immediately. Last year was one of the best weekends of my life and I anticipate stepping it up even more this year.
I am in the same boat in that I went to Coachella last year and although I had lots of fun, I have NO desire to go back this year.
I am trying to go to a different festival each year. 2009 was Bonnaroo, 2010 was Coachella and 2011 is now finally Sasquatch. I am VERY excited about this fest.

Well I'll tell you what. Just reading post around this board I can tell you right away, people seem a lot, and I mean a lot, nicer on here than there. That's not to say that a board completely represents the festival itself, but I do think it somewhat shows the mentality of the types of people that attend.
I am really glad to hear that Sasquatch has stepped up there edm bookings. Although I am not expecting the heavy duty gets that Golden Voice does, it's nice to see that I won't have severe whiplash between the two events.
Edit: I should state that I love Coachella. I think it's an amazing festival on a great piece of land. Yes, it can be hotter than hell but by the time the sun is starting to set, it becomes perfect. They also (as you guys are well aware of) tend to get the best lineups year in and year out. But lineups aren't everything...

What's up, dude, welcome. Well-intentioned warnings: As you've correctly noted, this board is not the Coachella board, meaning, among other things, that you do not see 5-10 new threads per day. Also, there are only, like, three people here who have that "Fuck you" attitude so prevalent at the Coachella board. These aren't rules, but customs I've come to appreciate and hope you'll acknowledge.
Edit: One additional thing I just want to point out -- Coachella may have sick ass lineups, or whatever, but here's something nice about Sasquatch: You'll get the lineup on February 6th. There. That's the date. We knew it weeks ago. No 65 page threads of "IS IT COMING OUT TODAY?" and "I'M ON THE RADIO AND NOTHING HAS CHANGED" horseshit. February 6th. Know and love this truth.

Gotcha. I rarely, on any board, start threads, so no worries on that. It's just that it was such a major decision for me and my crew to abandon our annual Coachella pilgrimage that I felt I needed to commit to this new board.
But thanks for the warm welcomings! Jezz, I should have bounced from that hate filled board forever ago.

I tried getting into that board during the festival off-season in order to keep up with general music discussion but that whole place is one giant cracked out rapid fire forum.

So after reading some threads on here, it appears that camping at Sasquatch is the norm. At Coachella there is a heavy devision b/w the groups of hotels and camping. Am I correct in thinking that this is not the case at Sasquatch? Is staying at a hotel just unheard of?

It's not unheard of, it's just largely impractical. The hotels are something like a 45 minute drive away, and there aren't many of them.
Additionally, this year's Sasquatch ticket comes with your camping pass included in the price. So, you buy Sasquatch admission, you buy camping. There have been mixed reviews with a tendency toward the positive.
Also, camping is "part of the experience" and blah blah blah. I'll let other posters address this point.
