 Purchasing Camping Equipment Onsite
« Thread Started on Nov 3, 2012, 7:26pm »

Hey all, has anyone heard of Project Shelter (www.projectshelter.org)? They are offering the option to purchase tents onsite next year and it sounds really cool. Debating whether this approach is more convenient.

While I realize this is likely just a shameless plug, I'd like the idea more if it were a rental system. Return it in good condition and get some money back... better for the planet, better for my wallet.

This would depend on whether you were going through Yakima, because it is over an hour away from the Gorge. I think anybody could go to a Walmart on their way, which ever direction they are coming from. I imagine Moses Lake and Ellensburg both have a Walmart as well. Those towns are half the distance as to Yakima.

Ellensburg does not have a Walmart. They have a Fred Meyer. ML had a small Wal-mart when I was visiting last year.

While it sounds more convoluted that it is, you can also contact the UPS store or one of the “Mail Box” stores in Ellensburg (or elsewhere) to arrange for receiving, then order your gear online to be shipped to a specific address for pickup. Order for delivery 2 days early, show up, and your tent, sleeping bag, air mattress and whatever is there waiting for you at the Mail Box store. Other bits and pieces you can probably get at Fred Meyer.
