| | Buy ice @ campgrounds? « Thread Started on May 12, 2012, 7:56pm » | |
This is my first sasquatch and my first time camping since I believe around the late 80's. I bought a cheap ass tent at target and a cheap airbed from amazon. I'm trying to Dr. Garbanzoure out what else I need.
My main question I can think of right now is concerning ice. I noticed when walking the Coachella campgrounds that there were vendors selling ice. Does sasquatch have vendors selling stuff like ice in the campgrounds???
I tried searching 'ice' but it's not 4 characters long so I received no results.

The search function doesn't work, period.
Yes, you can buy ice in the campground.

be warned ice is 5 bucks a bag, most places around the venue....
stock up on the drive in to cover you for the first night...
I always freeze a bunch of water bottles before to use as makeshift ice packs...

We used dry ice for Coachella and it was magnificent. We bought one bag of ice all weekend.

can you bring dry ice across the border? If not, I assume you could pick some up in Seattle / Spokane. Although I know in Calgary the only places that sell it require you to pick it up during regular business hours.

I have a semi-irrational fear of dry ice.

Seems pretty rational to me. Reach into the cooler at night while drunk, grab a handful of dry ice and before your drunk ass realizes what you are holding you get frostbite. Even more of a concern if someone who isn't aware of the dry ice situation goes to grab something.
Does the dry ice stay in a bag or something like that to prevent this?

I also would like to know how the dry ice cooler works....
It sounds awesome in principle but I need more details on the actual execution...

You should be able to wrap it in a small towel and be fine. Since it releases gas it will need to "breathe," thus things like ziplock bags or plastic rubbermaid containers are not the best options.
I think we'll be trying the dry ice thing this year as well.
