Deliberately arriving late to get overflow camping
« Thread Started on May 1, 2012, 1:11pm »

My peers and I were considering arriving late to the first night of sasquatch in hopes that there wont be any room left in the main campground and that we will have to be placed in overflow. Overflow is close to the entrance and with this year's in-out privileges, it would be nice to not have to walk a mile each time I want to run back to camp to get something.

But how much closer is overflow camping? Is it worth the effort of potentially missing some of the earlier acts and arriving late late late for a chance that we might make overflow? I suppose we risk being placed even further from the entrance if they are not done filling the regular campground by the time we get there.
I would personally rather take my time, arrive early, cook some food, set up camp, and not have to worry about it. But my other peers seem determined to get close to the entrance!

I camped in overflow last year... I can't say exactly how far it was, because you're drunk when you make the walk.. but it always felt like forever. IMO its not going to make a huge difference. We arrived Friday afternoon and I believe they had just started filling the overflow.

With the way their set up for camping now (requiring a wristband for entry), who knows if they will even need overflow camping.

Any scheme to try to get closer to the entrance may work, and it also may not, and there's absolutely no way of knowing where you're going to end up until you get there.

Yea huh it is. We were in overflow in 09 and it cut the walk to the entrance in more than half.

We were also so incredibly spaced out in overflow that you could literally drive up and claim a spot at any point during the weekend. Some people did this. No one cared. More than enough room. If you had a large group it might be tougher, though.

Get there for when the gates open and you'll be a 5 min walk at most from the store. Any other plan is stupid. Sure some people might get closer on the off-chance that they save some closer overflow for later, but chances are you'll still be WAAAAAAAY closer than if you show up later.

Show up the night of the 29th and you'll get a spot right up front.

show up on the 28th and park wherever you want. Make sure you're too drunk to drive and they can't make you leave (unless they have you arrested)

Is anyone able to give me an approximate idea of where overflow camping is located on this image/map? If its not super close to the entrance then I guess its not worth it :-(

I kind of like this idea. My peers are driving separate so either we caravan together at the same time, or we leave earlier and they leave later in hopes of getting overflow. Once they arrive perhaps we can move from our location to an open space in overflow (if we determine that it doesnt suck).

How bad is the tall grass? Is it difficult to set up a tent on?

Overflow is the thing that looks like it is growing off of regular camping.
