I've heard different things - but are you allowed to drive right up to your campsite and park there? This would be a huge help with storage, obvs. But I'm just wondering, depending on our tent situation, whether I might claim the back of my station wagon (plenty of room) to sleep in, over sharing a small tent. Good idea/bad idea?

Great idea if you have room in your vehicle. It can get pretty cold and/or wet at night, and I've wished many times that I had a larger car or RV to sleep in.
EDIT: Oh, and to answer your question, yes, you camp with your car.

Yup. I've slept in the car in the past. It's a great option if you have the room.
I'm curious about these "different things" you've heard. Is there really someone out there claiming that you must walk your gear to a spot?

Sounds like a great idea. I bet cars don't heat up as quickly in the morning, either. Anyone know if that's true?

Cars get hot as shit early... but it can be somewheat bearable if you have airflow.

Is it as bad as the tents get? I was roasting by 7 every morning last year, it was a guaranteed alarm clock that I couldn't ignore.

For the most part cars are worse than tents. The windows let the sun in better than the material on tents and if you leave all the windows rolled up, which I'm assuming you would since you probably have valuables in there, then there isn't any airflow at all. If you got those reflective window things for all the windows it might be a different story though.

I sleep in the back of my pickup w/canopy, in shade and with a fan for fresh air...very comfy even in heat.

at Cabela's they've to air mattresses made to fit in the back of a truck. They've got cutouts to fit around the wheel wells. Also, tents to connect directly to the box of a truck.
I would have bought it in a second if I a) had a truck, and b) didn't already own a travel trailer.

Hahaha, good reasons. Makes me wonder why you were even looking and thinking, really.

"Should I buy that? It's so cool. Aw well I guess not, I don't own the thing it's made to fit on and I also already own something better."
