My friend and I are popping our sasqu cherries this year and are travelling from Victoria, BC. We would like to know if any Canadian compadres have ever had any issue with bringing home baked goods across the border. No they will not contain any 'special' ingredients, we just want some super-awesome-healthy-muffins and tasty cookies to graze on. I have travelled in the US so much but have never brought baked goods over...lol

Funny you should ask this question, as I have some experience with this. In general, I would suggest you not bring any food with you. However, I brought some homemade brownies with me last year (I was heading to a potluck in Seattle that night, and I always feel like a douche if I bring store-bought things to potlucks). So anyways, I show up at the border, young guy, alone, in an expensive car, with 1000 glowsticks and 2 tubs of what are clearly homemade brownies in my trunk.

For whatever reason, the border guards could have cared less. They didn't hassle me at all.

So if that experience is any indication, you should be fine. I do know that bringing fruits and veggies is a HUGE no-no (they will make you throw them out, most likely). If you aren't baking any extra ingredients into your stuff, you'll probably be fine. Absolute worst case they'll take them / make you throw them out.

I think you should explain how that isn't a terribly offensive sexist remark before Friendly D or Stormy gets here. Or before I just completely lose my patience and go rogue.

Another thing to bear in mind is that food is cheaper south of the border. So again, in general, I would plan to stop at a grocery store in WA and buy the vast majority of what you want. This goes for booze as well, don't bother bringing it across the border.

Oh I definitely look forward to buying some cheap american booze. :)

Anyone know of any super-awesome grocery stores in Port Angeles? We're boating in to there directly from Vic...

And before you get cute again, I'll just be perfectly clear and tell you that it's the 'these days' part I am referring to, and not the part about girls using their brains. Also it sounds like you're being sarcastic.

I don't think it will be a problem. I have brought many baked goods with "special" ingredients across the border. If you have the innocent batch of cookies you should definitely be good.

While I have plenty of sarcastic bones in my body, my comment was only intended to praise women.

I'm not dicounting the possibility. I'm sure you're a pretty cool guy, and I have no doubt we'll cross paths at some point. Your board presence has been pretty heavy on leering and various other creepiness, though, so I have to give you shit about it. Lookin out for my own. Dig.

Whatever, though. If people based their whole opinion of me on my board presence I wouldn't have very many friends around here either.
