« Thread Started on Apr 17, 2011, 3:44pm »

I guess this is a good place to put this thread.

What sort of food have you brought in the past that has proven to be great? What would you warn against? What are some of your best-kept campground gourmet secrets?

Last year, the good items were eggs, bagels, cream cheese, coffee, chips, bananas, and jarred salsa.

the bad items were guacamole, pico de gallo-- they turned after about 4 hours in the van. phew.

I usually don't eat much at Sasquatch. I am amazed at how my body can function on a diet of booze, beef jerky and power bars.

^THIS!
Turkey Jerkey/trail mix/lots and lots of booze. That's usually my weekend menu, too. If I'm feeling hungry inside the fest, I may split a personal pan pizza or pretzel with the boyfriend.

However, if you're a foodie looking for some treats to eat, StormyPinkness has posted a recipe some where on the boards for some amazing looking energy bars that I'm really looking forward to trying.

Some people take it super seriously and whip out the camping grills and throw some kabobs and burgers and eggs in the morning. It all looks and smells awesome, but it would be too much for me to schlep up to the Gorge from the east coast.

I love cooking at home. There's this blogger I get recipes from and she's got a cooking cuisine section. Some great hints/ideas. Hope this helps :)

sweet! those recipes look awesome. I am a serious foodie-- and one of those people who whipped out the propane grill last year for some early morning eggs and espresso, though I flew in too (all thanks to my Vancouver friends). I guess I'll just keep a stash of carrots in my backpack!

My friends and I survived off multiple Nutella sandwiches last year. This year, they're getting an upgrade. I've recently discovered Justin's Chocolate Hazelnut Butter; it's like nutella only all-natural and better. A sandwich with that, natural peanut butter and granola is delicious.

I guess us from the Northwest will have to carry the load for the homecooked food.

We did breakfast burritos one day last year. We bring a two burner propane stove. PBJ, carrot sticks, nuts, crackers, energy bars; I bring baggies of these into the venue for snacks. We had hot dogs for when we got back to the site and were hungry last year. But it really does depend on what I have been doing all day whether I am hungry or not. More snacking than big things usually.

Pita and hummus. Canned ravioli. Apples, apples, apples. Granola bars. Sandwiches (meat is questionable, unless you're eating them in the campground when the meat is fresh out of the cooler.) I was camping solo last year, so I didn't bring a camping stove or anything that needed to be cooked. This year I'm definitely bringing one.
