If anyone has a photo of what such a bungee-rigged set-up looks like in its completed form, that would be killer! I'm having trouble picturing it. If not, my camping buddies and I will crack some beers and get creative!

I'll dig something up. It's pretty Heath Robinson though.

Do you lose your canopy yearly?

I have something like this that worked well at Shambhala last year, but we were sheltered from the wind by trees instead of being in an open field.

I had one like this and it lasted me four festivals. It only finally broke because one of my friends snapped one of the sides when trying to force it shut. Pretty good buy for $30 (found it on a great sale)!

You can try the bungee cord idea but I've found all that really matters is that you have strong guy lines for each corner. Try wrapping solar lights around the ropes or placing solar stakes at the pegs so you don't trip on them at night. And taking the canopy cover down is a good suggestion too but I think I only bothered to do that once.

Awesome, thank you! I'm going to be scouring amazon (as soon as I have money) to get lights for the camp for porpoises of a) not tripping, and b) finding my tent at high levels of intoxication. I think I'll probably over-prepare this year as far as securing the thing. Honestly I foresee us using bungee cords but in entirely irrelevant ways, and taking the canopy cover off (while a hassle) might just be the saving grace.

Target usually has a selection of inexpensive camp lights, although quality can be uneven sometimes. If you take the canopy off your shelter before you go in for the day, and leave the frame standing, it will be fine.

Canada :(

They're actually building a Target within walking-distance from my house but it's the first one in this city (and province?) and it won't be open until after Sasquatch. So Wal-Mart and dollar stores it is!

Get everything south of the border. A Target/Walmart in Canada is still way more expensive than in the states.

We got the best selection of cheap shit from China in the world!

(Seriously. Go to Walmart in China and the prices are higher even for things made in China.)

Indeed! Thanks crowell, that's an idea I hadn't thought of! We'll probably drive through Idaho and then over to Washington - probably stop in Coeur d'Alene or something and hit a Wal Mart. Thanks for the suggestion!

Exit 41 on the i90 going west at coeur d'Alene. There's a massive Walmart just north of the freeway.

The last Wal-Mart before Quincy has ended up being a necessary stop for us nearly every year. It's like the flaming sword which guards the tree which bears the Fruit of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.
