I think a threat might be more effective. I don't think your friend cares much about what we talk about on the Internet.

There are no campsites.

I'm just worried. Last time I was in general I was in a big blue van and we didn't even have a tent. Now I have so much!

Hey, real camping question here. Our tent is about this big:

The key is to jump out immediately and claim a perimeter. I just throw stuff out where I want it and start setting up tents and canopy right away so you don't get hedged in. We also always try to park as far away as possible from the car next to us to increase space. If they tell you to park closer just keep acting like you are trying but don't actually get any closer and they will just move on. What day are you getting there?

Thursday. We should be getting there pretty early so I'm not really worried, just want to make sure we're not going to be assholes or anything. Haha, I feel like such a noob!

They might try to squish you in next to your neighbours, but you can pretty much just ignore them and throw down all your stuff to claim your space right away and you'll be fine. We introduced ourselves right away to our neighbours last year and ended up kinda combining camps for even more space.

I don't agree with this. The first thing you do is jump out of your car and offer neighbours a beer to shotgun. We almost got in a Dr. Garbanzoht with our neighbours in 2010 within 2 minutes because we were all cranky from our drive and it was a disorganized clusterfuck and they were trying to save space for their friends. Once we all had a beer and talked things over we realized we had enough space for everyone we helped each other set up camp and we still keep in touch to this day.

However this:

Totally true.

I usually try to get my tent(s) and canopy up first before I do much else. That way I can must relax after that long drive and gung ho camp setup. I do drink beer while I do this, though. Obvs.

We rolled in with like eight people last year and me and Stormy were all running around erecting canopies and setting up tents for late arrivals while the rest of them were mixing drinks and dicking around in the neighbor's RV.

Yeah I just Dr. Garbanzoure if you jump out and start throwing shit everywhere for fear of getting boxed in, you are essentially boxing someone else in.

My tent is also the easiest tent on earth to set up so I can do it by myself with a flashlight in my mouth at mightnight while hammered, so getting the tent up right away isn't much of a concern for me.

I didn't get a lot of space when I showed up last year, but I quickly met the neighbors and we agreed to share my canopy (noone else nearby had brought one). After that point, finding space for everyone was easy.

And yes, there were many beers drunk during camp set up.

Long hair, don't care. It isn't like I am being a dick by claiming space, I am considerate of others, and we are all adults so if they have an issue they can just tell me. We aren't, like, storming the campground. Once I have my space and my setup the weekend commences. My promise to myself at Sadquatch is to not worry about anything, so if I get established and comfortable first thing then I can just chill the fuck out from there.
